Summary

This is ready to publish on Upwork. I would not add any more technical detail because you are now optimizing for signal extraction, not for solving the problem in the job post. Unity NGO + Relay Specialist – Forensic Recovery & Desktop Feasibility Audit Budget: $150–$250 USD Fixed Price (Evaluation Milestone) Project Type: One-Time Technical Audit & Compilation Test Potential Follow-On Work: Full Recovery Contract ($2,000–$5,000+) ⸻ Project Overview We are seeking an experienced Unity Multiplayer Engineer with strong expertise in: * Unity Netcode for GameObjects (NGO) * Unity Relay * Unity Transport * Multiplayer networking architecture * WebGL deployment * Desktop deployment * Legacy project recovery This is not a feature-development project. This engagement is a forensic technical assessment of an existing multiplayer Domino game project that was previously developed by another freelancer. The purpose of this milestone is to determine whether the recovered source asset is: 1. Recoverable as-is 2. Recoverable with targeted modifications 3. Better rebuilt from a clean foundation The selected engineer will independently assess the project and provide evidence-based findings. ⸻ Context The project is a multiplayer Domino platform built with: * Unity * Unity Netcode for GameObjects (NGO) * Unity Relay The repository contains an existing codebase with gameplay systems, UI, networking components, and deployment assets. Previous development reached a functional state locally, but multiplayer issues were encountered after deployment. We intentionally do not want applicants to assume a specific root cause. Part of this assessment is determining what the actual risks and blockers are. ⸻ Scope of Work The selected contractor will: 1. Review the Existing Source Project Perform an independent technical assessment of: * Project structure * Networking architecture * NGO implementation * Relay implementation * Build configuration * Dependency integrity * Code quality * Overall recoverability ⸻ 2. Validate Current Build State Determine whether the project: * Compiles successfully * Produces a working Desktop build * Produces a working WebGL build * Connects successfully in local testing * Connects successfully in deployed testing Document findings and evidence. ⸻ 3. Investigate Multiplayer Connectivity Review the networking implementation and identify: * Known issues * Potential issues * Architectural concerns * Deployment concerns * NGO / Relay configuration concerns * WebGL-specific concerns The objective is not merely to fix symptoms, but to determine root causes and overall project viability. ⸻ 4. Recovery Assessment Provide a structured estimate of: * Remaining repair effort * Estimated rebuild effort * Relative risk of each approach And identify the primary assumptions behind those estimates. Example: Repair Estimate: 20–40 hours Assumptions: * Core gameplay systems are complete * Existing state machine is functional * Relay architecture is recoverable ⸻ Required Deliverables At the conclusion of the audit, provide: Deliverable 1 A written technical assessment summarizing: * Current project condition * Major findings * Critical blockers * Recommended path forward ⸻ Deliverable 2 A Desktop feasibility assessment: * Builds successfully? (Yes/No) * Multiplayer functional? (Yes/No) * Risks identified ⸻ Deliverable 3 A WebGL feasibility assessment: * Builds successfully? (Yes/No) * Multiplayer functional? (Yes/No) * Risks identified ⸻ Deliverable 4 A recoverability report containing: * Recoverable * Recoverable with modifications * Not worth recovering With supporting rationale. ⸻ Deliverable 5 A repair-vs-rebuild recommendation including: * Estimated effort * Risk factors * Assumptions behind estimates ⸻ Required Experience Please apply only if you have direct experience with: Required * Unity Multiplayer * Unity Netcode for GameObjects (NGO) * Unity Relay * Unity Transport * C# Strongly Preferred * WebGL Multiplayer * Legacy Project Recovery * Dedicated Multiplayer Architecture * Production Deployment Troubleshooting ⸻ Application Requirements To be considered, answer all four questions. Question 1 Describe a multiplayer Unity project where you personally implemented NGO and Relay. What was your role, and what networking challenges did you solve? ⸻ Question 2 What are the most common causes of multiplayer functionality working locally but failing after deployment? ⸻ Question 3 When assessing a recovered Unity multiplayer project, what signals tell you it is worth repairing rather than rebuilding? ⸻ Question 4 A Unity NGO + Relay project was successfully developed to a functional state locally, but experienced multiplayer connectivity issues after deployment. During investigation, one observed browser console error was: “Relay is configured to use UDP, but NetworkDriver was created with WebSocketNetworkInterface.” Based on the information provided: * What do you believe is the biggest technical risk in recovering this asset? * What are the first three files, systems, or configurations you would inspect? ⸻ Important We are not looking for the fastest answer. We are looking for an engineer who can: * Think systematically * Investigate independently * Validate assumptions * Communicate findings clearly * Distinguish symptoms from root causes The goal of this engagement is to determine whether the project should be repaired, modified, or rebuilt before committing to a larger development contract. If the assessment is successful, additional implementation work may follow.
