Summary

I’m interested in hiring an experienced YouTube documentary editor for the first episode of a new investigative channel focused on real-estate crime, housing fraud, public records and court cases. The first video will be approximately 12–15 minutes and investigates a New York deed-theft case involving multiple Brooklyn homes. I will provide: • A completed script • Recorded voiceover • Limited on-camera footage • Research and source materials • Property deeds and court documents • Basic creative direction The editor will be responsible for turning these materials into a polished, cinematic and engaging YouTube documentary. The visual style should feel serious, investigative and evidence-driven. Documents, deeds, court records, maps and timelines should be treated as important parts of the story not simply placed on screen as static screenshots. Responsibilities include: • Editing and pacing the narration • Integrating on-camera footage • Cleaning and mixing audio • Animating documents, names, dates and important passages • Creating simple maps, timelines, counters b-roll and chapter cards (if needed) • Sourcing appropriate licensed or public-domain archival footage • Adding music, ambience and restrained sound design • Adding clear source tags where required • Basic color correction • Identifying narration lines that may require pickups • Delivering organized project files and a final YouTube-ready export The tone must remain respectful toward real victims. I do not want excessive memes, random stock footage, fake headlines, overly dramatic horror editing or AI-generated imagery presented as factual evidence. Ideal experience: • YouTube documentaries or video essays • Investigative journalism or true crime • Fraud, business or legal stories • Motion graphics and document animation • Strong understanding of viewer retention and narrative pacing PAID TEST Shortlisted applicants will be offered a paid 60–90-second editing test using actual material from the episode. The test is intended to evaluate storytelling, pacing, audio, document presentation and visual judgment. Please include: 1. Two or three relevant work samples 2. What you personally handled in each example 3. Your fixed price for a 12–15-minute video of this complexity 4. Estimated turnaround time 5. Editing and motion-graphics software used 6. Number of revision rounds included 7. Whether project files are included 8. Whether you can properly source and document licensed or public-domain assets Begin your application with “PAPER TRAIL” so I know you read the post. Please note: This may become recurring work if the first project goes well.
