The future looked bleak for our small 5-person team. We were receiving only 1-2 inbound calls per day, no one understood how to sell our product, and the company had just gone through a series of public stumbles. Despite the challenges, I decided to double down. I worked 12-hour days, called up to 300 “dead” leads per day to understand why they didn't buy, and even followed up on others' leads to learn more. My hard work paid off. I closed $1.8M in business in 30 days, 360% of the average. I had learned what our customers truly wanted and how to deliver it. These insights formed the foundation of a 10,000-word Sales Playbook I wrote for the company, and a Conversational Intelligence project. After leading all other salespeople for 4 months, I was given my own team, which I led as the #1 sales team for 9 out of 10 months. Eventually, I was in charge of running the department, hiring all new sales agents, and training them. We grew from 4 agents to 150, broke records, grew to $1.6B in sales, and duplicated this sales team offshore, and in a new geography, with a lower cost basis. Through all of this, I learned that growing sales teams doesn’t have to be miserable, haphazard, or expensive. There are systems, SOPs, and automations that produce the same result every time. I call this the Sales Operating System (SalesOS). Many phone sales teams struggle with common problems: new reps take time to ramp to KPI, outreach and biz dev efforts are messy and ineffective, and sales velocity is too slow. Applying the SalesOS to these problems yields ready solutions: we've reduced ramp time by 3-4 months on average, shown +100% increases in biz dev productivity, and increased conversion by up to 5.8X.
