Mechanical Engineering Lead – Physical Music Device (XRT)

I’m developing a new category of music product — a palm-sized, physical device that delivers immersive digital music experiences — and I’m looking for a mechanical engineering lead to take this from concept to working prototype. The product (called XRT) sits at the intersection of consumer electronics, collectibles, and music culture. It is designed to feel like a modern evolution of vinyl/CDs: tangible, premium, and built for real-world interaction. Key Responsibilities: Lead mechanical design and product architecture from early concept through prototyping Translate product specifications into manufacturable, scalable designs Collaborate on integrating internal components (connectivity, electronics, enclosure constraints) Optimize for form factor, durability, and tactile experience (this is a handheld object people will value and keep) What Makes This Role Different: This is not a standard consumer gadget: you’ll be helping to define a new physical format for music distribution Ideal Candidate: Strong background in mechanical engineering for consumer hardware or handheld devices Experience taking products from concept → prototype → pre-production Deep understanding of materials, tolerances, and design for manufacturing (DFM) Comfortable balancing engineering constraints with product experience and aesthetics Bonus (Nice to Have): Experience with collectibles, premium products, or design-forward hardware Familiarity with NFC, wireless interaction, or embedded systems constraints Interest in music, media, or culture-driven products See more info at our website here: https://www.prodigyxrt.com
