Senior Node.js / Python engineer for long-term ownership of Amazon operations and automation platform Job post We are looking for an experienced software engineer to become a long-term technical partner in maintaining, improving, and evolving a suite of internal operational tools that support an Amazon-focused purchasing, logistics, and distribution business operating in both Canada and the United States. This is not a greenfield project, and it is not a simple “fix bugs” engagement. You will inherit a living ecosystem of tools that already drive real business operations. The right person will enjoy understanding operational workflows, improving reliability, reducing manual work, and helping evolve systems as the business grows. We are looking for someone who wants to build a lasting relationship and eventually become a trusted extension of our team. Current technology stack Our environment includes: Node.js backend services Python scripts and automation tools Google Cloud-hosted services Retool workflows and internal applications Google Cloud services Google Workspace integrations including: Google Sheets Gmail Google Apps Script Amazon SP-API integrations Shippo shipping API integrations The platform supports workflows such as: Product sourcing and purchasing Inventory planning Shipment creation and tracking Vendor operations Operational reporting Spreadsheet-driven workflows Exception handling and operational alerts What you’ll be doing You will: Maintain and troubleshoot production workflows Improve reliability, observability, and error handling Refactor legacy code where appropriate Build new automation features Improve API integrations Help design better operational processes Identify technical debt and propose pragmatic improvements Occasionally jump in quickly when operational issues arise This role combines software engineering, systems thinking, and operational pragmatism. What we’re looking for You should have strong experience with: Node.js Python API integrations Cloud-hosted applications Production troubleshooting Data workflows Business automation Strong bonus points for experience with: Amazon SP-API Shippo Retool Google Apps Script Google Sheets automation Google Cloud E-commerce, logistics, supply chain, or marketplace operations Ideal profile You: Think like an owner, not a task executor Can work with imperfect documentation Ask strong business questions before writing code Are comfortable maintaining systems built by others Can communicate clearly in English Can estimate work realistically Care about long-term maintainability Engagement model We are intentionally looking for a long-term partnership. We expect to work with the selected candidate to define a compensation model that makes sense for both parties, potentially including: A monthly retainer covering a bank of support/improvement hours An hourly rate for special projects or overages Priority availability for operational issues We are open to discussing the right structure with the right person.
