Bookkeeper for Growing Shopify E-Commerce Brand (Part-Time)

About Us Fancy Proper is a growing apparel and lifestyle brand operating on Shopify. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented bookkeeper to help maintain accurate financial records, provide monthly reporting, and ensure our finances stay organized as we grow. This is a long-term opportunity for the right candidate. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced bookkeeper with e-commerce experience, preferably working with Shopify-based businesses. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, preparing monthly reports, tracking expenses, and ensuring our books are always up-to-date and ready for our CPA. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping & Financial Management Maintain and organize QuickBooks Online Categorize and record all transactions Reconcile bank accounts monthly Reconcile credit card accounts Reconcile Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe, and other payment processors Monitor and track business expenses Ensure all transactions are properly classified E-Commerce Accounting Reconcile Shopify sales and deposits Track refunds, chargebacks, and discounts Monitor inventory-related expenses Track cost of goods sold (COGS) Maintain accurate revenue reporting Assist with sales tax reporting and compliance Financial Reporting Prepare monthly Profit & Loss statements Prepare Balance Sheets Prepare Cash Flow reports Identify unusual expenses or discrepancies Provide monthly financial summaries and insights Accounts Payable & Receivable Track vendor invoices Monitor outstanding payments Maintain organized financial records Assist with payment scheduling when needed Tax Preparation Support Maintain organized records for year-end tax filing Coordinate with CPA as needed Ensure documentation is complete and accessible Required Skills QuickBooks Online (Required) Shopify bookkeeping experience Strong reconciliation experience Knowledge of e-commerce accounting Understanding of sales tax reporting Google Sheets / Excel proficiency Strong written English Excellent attention to detail Preferred Qualifications Experience working with Shopify brands Experience with inventory-based businesses Familiarity with apparel or retail businesses Experience with A2X or similar Shopify accounting integrations Understanding of Missouri sales tax requirements Bookkeeping certification or accounting degree Expected Time Commitment Approximately 5–10 hours per month initially Potential to grow as the business expands IMPORTANT: Application Instructions To confirm that you have carefully read this posting, please begin your application with the phrase: "Fancy Proper Rocks" Applications that do not include this phrase will not be considered. Trial Tasks Using sample financial data, you will be asked to: Categorize transactions Reconcile a bank statement Reconcile Shopify deposits Identify bookkeeping errors or discrepancies Prepare a sample Profit & Loss statement Provide recommendations for improving bookkeeping processes Evaluation Criteria Candidates will be evaluated on: Accuracy Attention to detail QuickBooks proficiency Shopify accounting knowledge Communication skills Organization Ability to identify issues proactively The trial project is expected to require approximately 2–4 hours and will be fully paid.
