Industrial / Mechanical Designer — Small Handheld Enclosure (Consumer Electronics)

Industrial / Mechanical Designer — Small Handheld Enclosure (Consumer Electronics) I am a Vancouver-based consumer-products startup looking for an experienced designer to design the enclosure for our first product. The electronics are already finished — we have a completed PCB and a 3D model of the board — so this is a focused enclosure engagement, not full product development. The product is a small handheld consumer electronics device: A single physical button, a USB-C charging port, and no screen A refined, minimal, premium look and feel — it's an in-the-hand object, so form and finish really matter Internally houses the PCB, a small battery, and a couple of other small components Scope of work Industrial + mechanical design of the housing, from concept through production-ready CAD Designed for injection molding from the outset (we'll 3D-print prototypes first, then move to tooling) Proper wall thickness, draft angles, tolerances, and a clean assembly method (snap-fit) Internal packaging and mounting of the supplied components What we'll provide The final PCB outline and a 3D/STEP model of the board Battery dimensions and the remaining component details A clear design direction and reference for the intended form (shared after NDA) Deliverables Editable native CAD source (SolidWorks or Fusion 360) plus STEP — we retain ownership of all source files Manufacturing-ready output suitable for a molder, with a basic DFM review Files staged so we can 3D-print functional prototypes during development Required experience A portfolio of manufactured consumer-electronics enclosures (not renders only) Demonstrated design-for-injection-molding experience Comfort packaging real PCBs, batteries, and small components into a compact housing Proficiency in SolidWorks or Fusion 360, with clean, parametric, editable models Logistics A mutual NDA is required before we share product specifics and the intended form — we're keeping details light in this posting for that reason Milestone-based engagement (concept → mechanical design → production-ready CAD), with defined revision rounds Vancouver / BC-based is a plus (we're open to meeting in person or doing calls), but strong remote candidates are very welcome Please include in your proposal Examples of enclosures you designed that reached production, noting which went to injection molding Your CAD tool, and confirmation you deliver editable native source + STEP A fixed-fee quote or range for the scope above, plus your typical project minimum Rough timeline and how you structure revisions Whether you're open to signing a mutual NDA before we share details We have the electronics sorted, and are ready to move once we find the right designer.
