Job Title: YouTube Script Writer – Investigative/Documentary Style

Job Description: We're building a YouTube channel focused on informative, documentary-style video essays — think deep dives into geopolitics, history, social issues, corporate stories, and real-world events. The style we're going for is similar to the channel fern — well-researched, compelling narration, no fluff, hooky openings, and a cinematic storytelling feel. We're looking for a full-time script writer who can consistently produce high-quality scripts on a weekly basis. What You'll Be Writing: 8–15 minute video scripts (roughly 1,200–2,200 words) Topics spanning history, geopolitics, corporate scandals, social phenomena, and world events Narration-only format (no on-camera host) — the script IS the video Strong cold opens that hook viewers in the first 30 seconds Clear, engaging structure: hook → context → build → payoff The Ideal Candidate: Has experience writing for YouTube or documentary-style content Can conduct their own research using credible sources (not just Wikipedia) Writes in a conversational yet authoritative tone — not academic, not sensational Understands pacing — knows when to slow down for weight and when to drive tension Delivers clean, formatted scripts ready for voiceover Can pitch topic ideas alongside writing Requirements: Fluent English (native or near-native) Portfolio of at least 2–3 writing samples (YouTube scripts, journalism, essays, or similar) Available full-time (40 hrs/week) with consistent weekly delivery Reliable communication and ability to take feedback Nice to Have: Familiarity with channels like fern, Wendover Productions, Neo, or Johnny Harris Background in journalism, history, political science, or related fields Experience with fact-checking and source citation To Apply, Please Include: 2–3 writing samples or links to relevant work A short paragraph on a topic you'd want to cover and why it would make a great video Your availability and expected rate (per script or hourly)
