Litigation Docketing Clerk (Remote) – U.S. Law Firm (On Call or Limited Part Time)
Worldwide
10–20 Hours per Week | Long-Term Position | Flexible Hours | Overnight Work Welcome About Us We are a growing U.S. law firm practicing primarily in Family Law, Juvenile Law, Estate Planning, and Bankruptcy in Illinois and Missouri. We are looking for an exceptionally organized and dependable Litigation Docketing Clerk** whose primary responsibility is ensuring our attorneys never miss a deadline. This is not a paralegal position. You will not draft pleadings, prepare discovery, communicate with clients, or provide legal advice. Your job is to review court orders and notices, identify every important deadline, accurately calendar those deadlines, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. If you naturally think: What happens next? then you'll likely enjoy this position. Responsibilities Review court notices and court orders received through electronic filing systems. Calendar hearings, status conferences, mediations, filing deadlines, compliance deadlines, and other litigation deadlines. Review state and county court dockets to verify court dates and filing information. Enter detailed and accurate calendar information into Clio Manage. Create and assign internal tasks for attorneys and legal assistants. Maintain accurate litigation calendars. Prepare a daily docket report summarizing upcoming deadlines. Conduct weekly docket audits to ensure deadlines have been properly entered. Organize electronic case files. Immediately notify the attorney of urgent or unusual court orders. Escalate any order that is unclear. **Never guess.** Required Qualifications Excellent written English. Excellent English reading comprehension. Exceptional attention to detail. Highly organized. Reliable internet connection. Comfortable learning new software. Able to work independently. Able to follow written procedures exactly. Strong critical thinking skills. Strong problem-solving ability. Preferred Qualifications Experience working for a U.S. law firm. Litigation support experience. Experience reviewing court notices and court orders. Experience using Clio Manage or similar case management software. Experience using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. What We're Looking For This is not a customer service role. This is not an intake position. This is not primarily a document preparation position. Success in this position comes from constantly asking yourself: What deadline comes next? What must happen before this hearing? Is there anything that could fall through the cracks? What should the attorney be preparing for next? Accuracy is far more important than speed. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, notices details others miss, and thinks proactively instead of simply completing assigned tasks. Because this is a remote position with flexible hours, we need someone who can be trusted to work independently and consistently without close supervision. --- Hours Approximately 10–15 hours per week initially. Flexible schedule. Overnight work is welcome Opportunity for additional hours as the firm grows. Compensation $7.00 to $9.00 USDhour, depending on experience. Up to $12.00/hour for candidates with prior U.S. litigation docketing experience, Clio Manage experience, and experience working for a U.S. law firm in a similar role. Performance reviews with opportunities for raises. Long-term opportunity for the right person. IMPORTANT – Application Instructions To be considered, you must answer every question below. We carefully review these responses. Generic answers, AI-generated answers that do not address the questions, or responses describing general legal assistant duties instead of litigation docketing responsibilities will not be considered. Please answer each question separately. 1. Imagine you calendar a hearing for September 15. What are the next things you immediately begin thinking about? 2. When you receive a new court order, what is the very first thing you look for? 3. You open your email Monday morning and there are 10 new court orders. How do you decide which one to process first? 4. You discover a filing deadline is tomorrow, but no one appears to be working on it. What do you do? 5. In your opinion, what is the purpose of a litigation calendar? 6. How do you make sure nothing gets forgotten after you enter a deadline? 7. A hearing is continued from August until October. Besides changing the hearing date, what else might need to be updated? 8. Tell us about a time you caught a mistake before it became a larger problem. 9. If your attorney never asked you about deadlines, how would you make sure nothing was missed? 10. Imagine I walk into the office at any point during the day and ask: What is the next important deadline in any of my cases? How would you make sure you could always answer that question? We are looking for someone who thinks ahead, identifies risk before it becomes a problem, and takes ownership of ensuring deadlines are never missed. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
