My strengths are in proofreading and copyediting nonfiction works, particularly in the self-development, self-help and memoir genres. Although I also have experience with sci-fi, dystopian, fantasy and junior fiction. The three most recent manuscripts I have edited have been: two memoirs based on neuroscience, trauma and self-development, and one historical fiction based on true historical events. Prior to commencing my freelance career, I completed a three-month internship as an assistant editor for an independent book publisher. I read and edited manuscripts for typography and grammar errors, and offered feedback on plot, pacing and characterisation. The genres I worked with were sci-fi/dystopian, fantasy, horror and dark romance. During my studies I also took electives in genre fiction and children's fiction, where I took part in writing and editing workshops. My strength during these workshops was helping my peers create authentic characters and believable dialogue, and identifying repetition, plot holes, pacing issues and contradicting elements within their stories. I am a creative at heart, with a background in Interior Design, and have always had a natural eye for detail. This, combined with my love of reading and storytelling, has armed me with the ability to spot inconsistencies or areas of a manuscript that need to be tweaked or strengthened. As an emerging book editor, I stand by two things. The first is to offer quality over quantity, meaning I will treat every manuscript with the attention and care it deserves. The second is to never rewrite an author's story, but offer edits that enhance it to ensure it is told in the best way possible.
