I was called down to Paramount off my very first spec script. At the time, Star Trek allowed 50 people a year to come to the William S. Hart building and pitch ideas. To earn that pitch, I beat thousands of other writers with my spec submission. I've been writing ever since. I give seminars at Universities and in Los Angeles for organizations like Colab. I've won pitching contests and excel at synopsis and loglines. I've also produced films for Netflix, Eone, Lionsgate, and MGM. I'm a writer at heart, though. Experienced writers know that writing is not a science, it's an art. You can't rely on structure. Structure is a guide. Structure will not elicit emotion from the audience. Your story needs to. In the few words above, you have everything you need to know about my experience level. Showrunners and Directors believe they can be writers because they've studied how to follow some "structure recipe". Structure is a science. Story is an art. Know the difference.Fantasy

Please read completely as many common questions are answered here. Born and raised in Ohio, I am a native English speaker and have a BA in English from Kent State University. For five years, I taught language, reading, and honors creative writing to junior and senior high students, writing my own drama and creative writing curriculum. Over the course of my career, I have released nearly a dozen YA novels, short story collections, a collection of plays, a cookbook, and a book on writing. I have worked as a freelance writer / ghostwriter in both non-fiction and fiction capacities, writing everything from captions and copy to short stories and novels in myriad genres. While my forte is fiction, I do accept non-fiction work. I've created characters and outlines, as well as writing from a provided outline, and can work with as much or as little as the client wishes. All work is 100% original, meaning that unless otherwise instructed by a client, I do not outsource work to other freelancers and I do not use generative AI programs. None of my writing, including any provided samples, were assisted or created by AI. Much of my work as a ghostwriter has made Amazon's top 100 ebook lists at least once, and I have had more than one make USA Weekend's Bestseller list. I have been freelancing since 2002 and have been writing full-time since December 2012. As I sign NDAs with all of my clients and while some do give permission for me to use parts of that work as writing samples, I cannot provide full chapters of any work I have done for clients. I can only provide chapters from my own work, which is all YA. I do not write samples over 500 words on request without payment. I require all communication to be through a messaging platform, which means no phone or Zoom interviews, though I am happy to set a time for an Upwork message chat interview. My current Upwork hourly rate is $40/hr and my current Upwork per word rate is $0.06/word. This is based on my experience and what my current clients are paying. Outlining, story development, and revision options vary for per word / fixed rate work and are not provided without additional compensation. I work on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that comes by contract, not discussion. I can advise what my schedule looks like at any given time, but until a contract is signed and a project accepted, that may change. I do not accept any work that promotes / portrays any of the following in a positive manner: homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, hatred, or blasphemy of any religion.Fantasy

Hey there! :) I'm Betty and my love for writing is far beyond what I thought it would be. Let me tell you a little bit about what I do... I love creative writing. For a certain, this is where my passion lies. I love it because this is where I can create stories with my imagination. I am well versed in writing erotic articles, erotic short stories, and romance stories with different tropes and themes. This ranges from contemporary, sweet, sensual, paranormal and romantic suspense. This is where my creativity sparks with excitement especially when writing the following tropes; -Billionaire. -Secret Romance. - Friends to Lovers. -Enemies to lovers. -Happily ever after. -Werewolves. -Office Romance. -Reverse Harem, -Protector I have a way to capture my readers with my stories. With characters and a plot that the audience can relate to because as a reader I know that a good story has to grip the readers from the word go. My imagination is vast, there is no doubt about that. When I start a new story I just take my notebook and write till I develop a great story line and characters that you'll feel compelled to relate with. Apart from creative writing, I can manage a blog, write articles as well, which is my second love. I have a blog myself which helps me pour my views. I have had jobs on many freelancing websites, and I have had friends sending me ghostwriting jobs because of my imaginative filled ideas. I assure you that I can deliver on time with excellent results. I have a remarkable turnaround and I can guarantee that my work for you will be meticulous and well delivered. I can't wait to work for you. Have a good one! :)Fantasy

I specialize in the genres and different subgenres of Romance, Cozy Mystery, Thriller & Suspense, and Sci-Fi & Fantasy. I consider many things when plotting and writing stories, but these five are the most important. Please walk with me. The first is the actual plot, the foundation of your story. It's important to establish a clear beginning, middle, and end for your story at this point, get familiar with the major characters driving the story, and a breakdown of your chapters. The second thing is character development. You tell your stories through your characters, so it's important to develop them properly or your story won't even stand a chance with readers. The third is the setting of your story. This goes beyond just the time, place, and environment, it includes descriptions of places, and how well you can write the setting to try as much as possible to submerge your readers into the world of your story. The fourth is the flow of your story. What's the hook for your chapters? What's the placement of your cliffhangers? Twists, turns, your use of suspense, etc. All these put together perfectly enough to keep your readers flipping the pages till they're finished and looking forward to your next book. The fifth is the climax and resolution, how you end your story. Trust me, it's more important than you think. I work majorly with the diverse genres and tropes of romance, cozy mystery and thrillers, but I equally work on sci-fi and fantasy. I use the secret formula too, the FPA template when needed. My rates are reasonable, and I enjoy the process of making a good story. If any of the above sounds interesting to you, please shoot me a message and let's go from there.Fantasy

Hello there! I am an experienced writer, editor, and proofreader who has had the opportunity to work on a variety of meaningful projects. These include educational video scripts, children's stories, student workbooks, activity books, product descriptions, newsletters, brochures, blog articles, cookbooks, e-books, website content, inspirational speeches, humor columns, and children's comedy skits. Basically, I love just about anything in need of creation, revision, or polishing! I'm also a published children's playwright with a premier drama script publisher. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education. I spent fourteen years as a middle school teacher and have the scars to prove it. In terms of work experience, I've also been an enthusiastic ice cream scooper, a nervous weather reporter, a sassy secretary, an exhausted social services worker, a much-too-loud librarian, a cheerful camp cook, and a fun-loving youth drama director. By nature, I am organized and a perfectionist. I care about every project as if it were my own. I also tend to be a ruthless editor with nearly everything I read. I will find grammatical mistakes in menus for fun. I edit movie dialogue in my head. I was once bold enough to correct a police officer's spelling of "through" on my speeding ticket. I am a clear and consistent communicator, and I consider my client's satisfaction to be my success. I approach all of my work with professionalism, a commitment to excellence, and definitely a sense of humor whenever possible!Fantasy

I believe the role of an editor is to help writers express themselves as clearly and eloquently as possible. This calls for honesty, sensitivity, excellent communication, a collaborative mindset, and an obsessive attention to detail, all traits I strive to embody every day. Hopefully, my 100% job success score will tell you how my past & current clients have felt about their experience with me. Many have even included me in their Acknowledgments, which is always deeply gratifying. For example, one author wrote: “My sincere thanks to my editor, Lisa Messinger, who turned this from a rough manuscript with lots of sharp edges, into a smooth, polished work.” As the saying goes, variety is the spice of life, and for me this holds true in editing as well. I love learning new things from the wide range of material on which I work. I'm happy to edit most types of content, and am always looking to forge long-term relationships, though my primary focus is manuscripts. I have years of experience with the following: *Fiction (most sub-genres, and every length, from short stories to novellas to full-length novels): adult, YA, middle grade *Non-fiction: memoir, historical, self-help/personal development, marketing collateral, white papers, consultant reports, etc. I'm passionate about what I do, and consider it a privilege to be able to employ my skills and expertise to help writers bring their vision to life. You can trust that I'll be as invested as you are in the quality of your final draft. Reach out to me and let's get started! I look forward to working with you.Fantasy

I have been telling stories consistently since I was performing puppet shows in the living room as a kid. While my puppet friends and I have parted ways, I still cannot stop myself from seeking out stories and comedy - whether that's in everyday conversations or in my writing. In 2012 I began working on my own personal humor blog satirizing culture, politics, and myself. Working with kids from 2016 to 2019 also gave me an insight into young minds, helping me develop my own sense of creativity and imagination. While studying to get my degree in Writing from Eastern University, I discovered my passion for collaboration as editor-in-chief of Inklings, the college literary magazine. I also had the opportunity to write several short plays alongside the actors that would be performing in them, which was a valuable lesson in learning how to write for and with other people. I am constantly using this skill as a freelancer, balancing my own creative voice with the needs of my clients. My favorite projects have been the children's books, middle grade books, and young adult novels that I have ghostwritten. However, I can write for any age, and have written many genres, from humor, to science fiction, to fantasy, and thriller. For me, the most rewarding aspect of writing is helping others find their voices through believable characters and intriguing plots. This is not the only way to tell a story, though, as I have also helped create various funny scripts for YouTube, the stage, and other types of media. Is your story already written, you just need someone else to take a look and suggest improvements? I can edit it as well, telling you the hard truths while sticking to your vision. If you have a story you'd like to tell, feel free to reach out and I'd love to discuss how I can help. As an editor, I've worked with authors from all over the world, and am currently a freelance editor with Indigo River Publishing based in Pensacola, Florida. With Indigo River, I work as an editor and as an author coach, communicating with writers to help make sure their books are as perfect as they can be - all while sticking with their original visions. I can work on hourly projects (I estimate being able to write between 450-900 words per hour and edit between 900-1,800 words per hour), or write at a fixed rate of $0.18 per word (for books of 10,000+ words) or $0.20 per word (for books below 10,000 words). My editing rate is around $0.09 per word, depending on how extensive the edits need to be. Thanks!Fantasy

I am a writer that specializes particularly in fantasy and speculative fiction with romantic subplots. I specialize in writing with strong voice, but I am able to shift and change that voice based on the needs of the project. As a writer, I think that it’s crucial to make the best book or story that you can—regardless of whether my name is attached to the project, I will always strive to write something great. Because of my commitment to make a great story and my commitment to serving as a conduit for my client’s vision, I’ll likely engage with you on a lot of discussion about your project to make sure I get it right! I am well versed in the Save The Cat! Plotting methodology and can also work with you to iron out any problems or snags in your outline. I truly believe that when you write a book, you're not just telling a story, you're sending a message to someone who needs it--even steamy romance can send a message. This is something I greatly enjoy doing and I will make something for you that you can be proud of. My rates for fiction are $0.04 per word. My love of prose and fictional worlds led me to study for a bachelor's Degree in English and Writing, followed by a Master's Degree in Creative Writing. I chose to be a freelance writer because I enjoy using my skills to create quality work for my clients, whether this is writing outlines or bringing fictional ideas to life. Regardless of what the project consists of, I value how important words are and how, when used correctly, they hold the power to leave an imprint. I have plenty of experience in creating new places, people, and events, as I’ve worked on projects from short stories to an ongoing book series, from children’s fiction to stories for adults, and from science fiction to thrillers. Whether you need assistance with your story arc, character development, the creation of your story, or you’re just after someone to glance over your work and advise, then I can assist with this. My fascination with creating new worlds and my intrigue with all things dystopia have led me to write three young adult science fiction novels. To me writing isn’t just work, it’s also my passion, hobby, and purpose. I reside in the UK but am proficient at writing in both British English and American English. Above all else, I’m professional, friendly, quick to respond, and full of creative ideas that I want to unleash.Fantasy
