A forex trader, or foreign exchange trader, is a professional trader or investor who makes money by taking advantage of price differences in foreign currency exchange rates. Forex traders will seek to profit by identifying and exploiting small differences in constantly changing exchange rates between two or more currencies. Forex traders will buy or sell large sums of foreign currencies with the aim of buying when a currency is weak and selling when it is strong in order to profit from the difference.

Forex trading is similar to stock trading, but instead of trading a part of a company, forex traders exchange based on the values of currency worldwide.

The Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated foreign exchange trader to join our growing company. You will be required to meet with clients and manage their accounts, including conducting trades on currencies and commodities on their behalf. This may include being available to trade on the weekends. You will be required to develop trading strategies to balance risk management with profit-seeking when buying and selling on forex trading platforms. This will also include creating and delivering reports on a regular basis to both clients and management.

Responsibilities

Manage the risks of trading on foreign exchange markets while making a profit
Conduct research on the financial markets
Analyze market activity and monitor market trends

4 Steps to Creating a Forex Trader Job Description That Fits Your Needs

With a sample forex trader job description in hand, it’s time to write that job post. Although you don’t need a complete job description as you would when hiring an employee, aim to provide enough detail for a contractor to know if they’re the right fit for the project. Below are some factors to consider when writing your job description:

1. Determine What Type of Forex Trader You Need

Forex traders may work independently, conduct trades on behalf of individual clients, or execute trades as part of a large institutional investment firm. Each of these situations requires a proper understanding of appropriate trading strategies and risk management depending on the client, their level of risk, and the amount of capital available to trade.

2. Employee vs. Independent Contractor vs. Agency

Forex traders can be hired in-house, contracted through an agency, or hired independently as a freelancer. A freelance forex trader might specialize in one area and could be employed to fill a single talent gap within your team. An agency will have a forex trader team that can help with various aspects of your project. It all depends on how granular you want to get with your talent staffing needs. 3. Experience

The more experienced a forex trader is, the more complex tasks they’ll be able to perform for your business. An entry-level forex trader may be familiar with trading common currency pairs, such as USD/EUR and USD/GBP. Alternatively, you might consult with a senior forex trader to help with trading less commonly used pairings using a range of advanced forex trading strategies, such as Ichimoku clouds, order blocks, and triangular arbitrage. Your project scope will determine the type of experience required for the job. A forex trader’s salary depends on how much effort, time, and investment they’re willing to put into the art of trading.

4. Risk Management

It’s important to clarify the level of risk that a forex trader should take when conducting trades. Forex traders conducting speculative trades should provide the underlying forex trading strategies and technical analyses used to justify their positions. Forex traders will be expected to meet quotas and regularly meet with managers to review recent transactions.
