Hi! I would love a chance to show you that I may be exactly who you are looking for to work on your project! I am very accessible online when under contract and regularly send out progress updates. I am also a detail-oriented writer, and I consider correct spelling and grammar to be non-negotiable requirements of everything I do. Most of my clients re-hire me frequently or have plans to do so in the near future. Proofreading and editing non-fiction and fiction materials in various formats (articles, books, websites, business documents, etc.), copy-editing, transcription, data entry, desktop publishing, research, product reviews and descriptions, creative writing, and informative guides are all things I do on a regular basis. I have edited quite a few eLearning courses covering topics such as dental hygiene, dating, health management, history, English, and more. I am happy to complete a small portion of your project to see if I meet your expectations before hiring, and I can also provide previously completed examples upon request. My work always passes Copyscape or any other checks for plagiarism (which is something I take very seriously and avoid at all costs). I consider each project to be highly confidential and have no problem signing a confidentiality agreement. I take my commitment to each and every project very seriously. I have many years of experience as an administrative assistant in several non-profit organizations and churches where my duties included office management and various data entry and transcription tasks along with creating documents and spreadsheets to fit different needs and projects. I am looking for short-term and/or long-term opportunities to both supplement my income and keep my editing and writing skills active while working from home. I am reliable and dependable, and I will never abandon any project. I also prefer to complete tasks sooner rather than later, and I usually do so before the deadline if at all possible. Thank you ... I look forward to working with you! Rebekah BogardusMarkup

💠 Line editing 💠 Copy editing 💠 Proofreading 💠 Most writers are afraid that their work contains mistakes or typos that will distract from their message. To put it simply: I am good with words. I’ve been on Upwork now for nearly a decade, and in that time, I’ve written and edited for a diverse range of clients and industries, helping to elevate all manner of writing. There is really nothing that I wouldn’t feel comfortable working on. My primary niches are website content and book edits. The former primarily involves deep edits, but I’m no stranger to writing blog posts, either—about any number of topics. That includes blog posts, white papers, website content, and anything in between. Next to that, I’m no stranger to book edits, where I ensure that each word and sentence is as clear, concise, and error-free as possible, and that everything maintains consistency from beginning to end. This includes character development for fiction novels, or the consistency of ideas and concepts in non-fiction. In recent years, I’ve also become familiar with the world of AI and can humanize any manner of AI-generated writing if it so happens that you’re looking to give something you’ve generated with ChatGPT a more human touch. This can include just small writes and edits to help remove the robotic writing style of AI, as well as more comprehensive rewrites to ensure that the writing passes an AI detector. Overall, I have a great attention to detail and a masterful grasp of the English language. I’m able to take even the most awkwardly phrased sentences and make them flow like water. So, if you need another pair of eyes for your writing, I’ve got you covered.Markup

Hello and welcome to my profile. I’m an intuitive copy editor, a meticulous proofreader, an excellent copywriter and a thorough researcher. I’ve served as the final pair of eyes on books from a host of genres, as well as articles, blogs, website content, etc. intended for both general and academic audiences. My success at that work can be measured by the feedback I have received from many if not most of my clients, one of whom paid me a wonderful compliment by observing that "she makes you look good." That is, of course, the end goal of every copy editor. I am particularly careful to keep my clients informed throughout the course of each project, soliciting and incorporating their ideas and responding to their concerns to ensure their complete satisfaction with the finished product. A great deal of my work has involved theses and dissertations, especially those written using APA (7th edition) format. Throughout my freelance career, I have completed scores of projects for graduate and doctoral students from all over the world. One important proviso: I do light editing and substantial proofreading of academic work, but I take the concept of academic integrity very seriously. If you're looking for heavy editing, rewriting, or original writing, I cannot help you. I hope that we'll have an opportunity to work together.Markup

As a hardworking student, I have gained important skills that have made professional editing and proofreading an excellent fit for me. As an undergraduate, I improved my organizational skills and developed my writing abilities, along with gaining exposure to a wide variety of subjects. In my work as a graduate professorial assistant, I searched for minuscule errors (e.g. correct accents) in countless Greek exams, which maximized my experience in identifying minute mistakes. After graduating, I took Caitlin Pyle's unique Proofread Anywhere course. This intensive proofreading course reinforced my grammatical and editorial knowledge and gave me the tools to be a successful professional in this field. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with a plethora of clients on a wide range of projects. I have worked on anything from marketing emails to books (both fiction and nonfiction), from academic journal articles to blog posts. No project is too small or too large, too casual or too technical. Every project is important to me and receives my careful attention.Markup

Reading has always been my favorite pastime. My love for reading brought me to an appreciation for editing. I went from devouring as many books as I could to helping writers improve their work. From leaving comments on community-shared fanfics and romance stories in 2011, to helping authors of all kinds reach their literary vision. My love for editing has brought me as much joy as reading for pleasure. I work with fiction authors who are ready to achieve their literary vision by developing their, amplifying their voice, and refining their manuscript. As a freelance editor I have worked with many authors, helping them clarify and improve their stories. I love bringing books that have their own level of charisma to the forefront, to be shared with the world. And helping others share stories that I like to read is the highlight of my job. I'm a freelance copywriter/content writer with more than 10 years of experience writing product descriptions, website copy and SEO blogs that get clicks and drive sales. I've done it for publishers, bookshops, coaches, e-commerce and private clients. But with all the copy slingers out there, how do you know we're the right fit? → If you need personality-driven copy/content that connects with your audience without being too salesy, then we're getting warm. → If you need someone who relishes sleuth-like competitor research to set your brand apart, then we're getting hot. → If you're in the food, garden, eco-product, skin/hair care, beard care (I've got a fetish) or lifestyle space, then we're smoking hot! (FYI, I can adapt to other industries too.) On the other hand, you may have some 'wallflower' copy that needs some love. Or a book/article/lead magnet that needs a lick and a polish. If so, that's where my skill and experience as a copyeditor come in. (Yes, I can switch to prim, bespectacled editor in one deft move.) I'd be more than happy to tweak, tighten or recast until your writing sings and your headlines pop. If my style resonates, hit that message button and tell me where it hurts. (In your business, of course. All other complaints should be referred to a trained medical professional. I'm not THAT good.)Markup

I'm a professional publishing consultant, editor, and writing coach with years of experience in the publishing industry. To date, I've edited over one hundred manuscripts. When working with you, my mission is to be your go-to collaborator for your project by remaining highly focused on your needs and by providing high-quality deliverables tailored to your project's goals. We can begin working together at any stage of your publishing journey as my skills and services include writing coaching, beta reading, editorial assessments, developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and publishing consulting. Having worked at two university presses, I have experience with manuscripts of all types including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, short stories, business, and education. As a freelancer, I've also worked with fantasy, romance, crime fiction, and other commercial genres. I also have a BFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Management in the Creative Economy. As your editor, I'm dedicated to helping you develop high-quality content that meets all of your goals. I understand the effort that goes into your writing and your desire for your content to be the very best it can be. Therefore, my deliverables include not only the edited manuscript but also edit reports and collaborative revision hours that are all focused on elevating your manuscript. As your publishing consultant, I can guide you through the digital and print publishing process to deliver your content successfully, all while building your author or company brand. Together, we'll navigate your project through the independent, hybrid, or traditional publishing landscapes. I can develop a strong publishing strategy for your content and aid with project management for various steps of the process—from performing market research to executing sales strategies. As your writing coach, I can guide you through the writing process by providing exercises and techniques. I can identify the weaknesses and strengths of your writing and then provide solutions for how to eliminate those weak points and enhance your strengths. My goal is to be someone you can bounce your writing ideas off of and someone who supports and challenges you as a writer. If you're interested in working with me or have any questions, just send me a message telling me about your project and we'll go from there! Types of editing: Developmental Editing A developmental edit focuses on the big-picture elements of your content such as plot, character development, pacing, narrative, etc. For nonfiction books, it focuses on the structure of your content, what objectives need to be met by each section, delivery, etc. If your content is completed but hasn't undergone any revision yet, a developmental edit is where you want to start. When doing a developmental edit of your work, I provide you with a commented manuscript that highlights every suggested revision, edit report(s) with detailed explanations of issues and proposed solutions, and collaborative revision hours to discuss the edits. Line Editing Line editing is a high-level edit that focuses on the language, tone, pace, descriptions, voice, and writing style throughout the manuscript. A line edit includes a mix of direct edits and recommendations for additional content or cuts. When doing a line edit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Copyediting A copyedit focuses on the readability of your content by correcting for grammar, inconsistencies, awkward phrasing, sentence structure, repetitions, etc. When doing a copyedit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Proofreading Proofreading focuses on correcting typos, spelling, punctuation, and other small errors. This is the last phase of editing. When proofreading your content, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style).Markup

I’m all about words. Choosing the right one for the right moment can be magical. Punctuating all of them correctly is essential—I'm a huge fan of the Oxford comma. As a professional copy editor, my job is to help you put the right pieces in the right places. I love to read and consume large amounts of media from a variety of sources and genres; some great, some poor, all educational. Struggling to fine-tune your non-fiction manuscript? Not sure if your fictional plot is interesting? Let me help. I have a high volume of clients and am up-to-date on reader preferences and good branding strategies. I admit to having a soft spot for YA fantasy/sci-fi writers, so contact me about your passion project! If you are contacting me for work: • I choose my clients carefully through a simple interview process: you send me a sample of your writing, I send you a critique, and we decide if we can stand each other. • If we move forward with the project, come prepared, you will get true edits. • I am tough and thorough. My job is to make you look good. • Everything happens in Google docs, MS Word, Pages, or Scrivener using editing tools so you have complete control over any changes. • I do not ghostwrite but I will help you find your voice because it needs to be heard.Markup

Hello! I am a professional novelist, ghostwriter, and developmental/copy editor with over ten years of full-time experience on Upwork. I also do Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) formatting for Amazon’s self-publishing program, to include images/photos. Writing as "Janeen O'Kerry," I am the author of seventeen different titles. These include historical and contemporary romance; science fiction; fantasy; and non-fiction. I did the writing, editing, formatting, and cover selection on all of my own books, and you can see them simply by searching "Janeen O'Kerry" in the Amazon store. For proofreading and developmental/copy editing, I will of course provide a free sample proofread or edit of about 500 to 1000 words depending on the length of your work. I am a full-time writer and editor and always open to ongoing projects. I will be glad to sign an NDA for you if you wish. I do not use artificial intelligence (AI) software in any part of my writing, editing, or research process. ***All editing and proofreading jobs include a blurb of about 120 words for your Amazon detail page and a 140-character piece for advertising and social media posts.** Ghostwriting $0.05 (five cents) per word for original work, either fiction or non-fiction. $0.03 (three cents) per word to write from your complete, detailed outline or partial manuscript – at least one-third of the final desired length. $0.02 (two cents) per word to rewrite from your existing or AI manuscript. Developmental Editing An overall critique with many in-depth suggestions. No copy editing or rewriting. $0.005 (one-half cent) per word with a $35.00 minimum. Copy Editing Line-by-line corrections to grammar, punctuation, and word choices (rein/reign and trooper/trouper.) Recasting of sentences for clarity and turning narrative into dialogue where appropriate. $0.01 (one cent) per word with a $35.00 minimum. Copy Edit with Developmental Edit – A combination of both. Line-by-line corrections to grammar, spelling, punctuation and word choices (rein/reign or trooper/trouper.) Recasting of sentences for clarity and turning narrative into dialogue where appropriate. Many comments and in-depth suggestions regarding the overall manuscript. $0.01 (one cent) to $0.015 (one and one-half cents) per word with a $35.00 minimum. Proofreading Punctuation, spelling, and word choices only. No rewriting or suggestions. $0.005 (one-half cent) per word with a $35.00 minimum. KDP Formatting Formatting your e-book and paperback manuscript for Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) program. Includes a searchable Table of Contents for the e-book; page numbers with Table of Contents for the paperback; and a list of categories and keywords. Note: Amazon requires that you do the actual uploading yourself, since no one else can use your account; but you may consult me through Upwork messaging at any time. The formatted manuscripts will be sent to you as a .docx for the e-book and a .pdf for the paperback. One-third of a cent ($0.0035) per manuscript word for text formatting. Images: $5.00 each up to 50 images; $2.00 for each additional image. This includes placement, captioning, and Alt Text for each image. My bid includes formatting both the e-book and the paperback version in the same project. E-book alone: $0.0017 per word, plus image fees if any. Cover Copy (the "blurb") I do not need to read the entire book. From your short description, outline, or synopsis of the book, I will create: A blurb of about 100-120 words for the book's back cover and Amazon detail page. A short 140-character piece for advertising and social media posts. $35.00 per book includes both of these. $25.00 to edit an existing blurb into both of these. Medical Writing & Editing Articles and information for your website, e-book, blog, or patient handouts. I have eight years of full-time work as a medical transcriptionist for clinics and hospitals, which gave me extensive experience with medical terminology in many different specialties. Writing: Five cents per word with a $35.00 minimum. Editing: Three cents per word with a $35.00 minimum. The many books that I have written or copy edited are all getting four and five-star reviews on Amazon.com. Allow me to help make your book into one that will have lasting appeal and continue to sell for years to come, as my own books do. All clients are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, usually two to four weeks ahead of start date. Thank you! I look forward to working with you. Janeen Sloan / "Janeen O'Kerry"Markup

I'm a professional writer, editor, proofreader, and layout artist with 30+ years' experience. I hold two master's degrees (counseling psychology and anthropology) and a graduate-level certificate in nonfiction writing. I've been a highly successful freelancer for the past 20 years and have also worked for educational publishers, print shops, and daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly publications. I've written 300+ nonfiction children's books and have copyedited thousands of books and ancillaries for educational publishers. I've also copyedited a New York Times best-selling finance book, numerous books for prominent psychologists and professional coaches, and many books on business and health topics. After taking Benchmark Education Company's copyediting test, the managing editor wrote: "You did fantastic on the test! In fact, yours was the best test I've seen in the two years I've given it." Another editor at Benchmark wrote: "You are a wonderful writer, a quick study, organized, and so on top of schedules that it is a pleasure working with you!" Service Description: I offer expert nonfiction copy editing and proofreading as well as children's *nonfiction* writing. PLEASE NOTE: I don't write web content or marketing copy. Also, regarding children's writing, I only write nonfiction. WRITING: I've written more than 300 leveled books and hundreds of reading passages and assessment questions for educational publishers, including Reading A-Z, Benchmark Education Company, Rosen, Zaner-Bloser, Evan-Moor, and Wright Group/McGraw-Hill. My strong suits include life science, earth science, geography, the human body, art, music, history, biography, and cultures around the world. I have a passion for life science topics and a knack for rephrasing scientific content for young readers. NONFICTION EDITING AND PROOFREADING: I tighten text and smooth it out, covering sentence structure and flow, voice, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, consistent verb tenses, parallel construction, correct word choices (e.g., "that" vs. "which"), and more. I also work with authors to reorganize paragraphs or sections for better flow. I can copyedit in Word, Google Docs, or WordPress. I'm also an expert at reviewing layouts before publication. GRAPHICS: I can create interior layouts for print. (I was a full-time graphic artist for 20 years.) I partner with another Upwork freelancer who creates ebook versions of publications. Here are additional testimonials from satisfied clients: "I've worked for major New York book publishers and top-tier university presses, and Kirin is one of the best copy editors I've encountered. She is an editor's dream: sharp, analytical, logical, detail-oriented, and a pleasure to work with. I rest easier knowing that she's on the case whenever she tackles one of my projects." -- John Rousselle, Former Editor, Reading A-Z "Best proofreader/editor I have ever worked with, and I've worked with many. Meticulous, extremely knowledgeable, and thorough -- she was born for this kind of work and does it extremely well." -- Andrew Neitlich, Founder and Director, The Center for Executive Coaching "Kirin has a strong sense of language and writing style, and she has an incredible eye for even the smallest editorial details." -- Katherine Follett, Former Editor, Reading A-Z "I have seen passion in providers. I have seen proficiency. And I have seen professionalism. But rarely have I seen passion, proficiency and professionalism in one provider. Kirin is the real deal. Communication, excellent. Deadlines, always early. Results, beyond expectations. Kirin loves what she does, and it shows in her incredible work. I feel fortunate I was able to work with her!" -- Peter Galante, Innovative Language Learning "Kirin has edited for me for several years. She is thorough and quick, and her editing is the best! She takes my writing and makes it even better, offering an elegance of language as well as suggestions that are spot on. On top of all that, she is very easy to work with. I recommend her highly." -- Patrick Williams, EdD, Master Certified Coach, Founder of the Institute for Life Coach Training "The grammar gods sent you to me." -- Lawrence Ineno, MightyProse Ghostwriting & Copywriting "Amazing! Kirin has an eye for detail like no other editor I've hired. I've worked with at least seven in the last few years, and she's been the most thorough and professional one. I highly recommend her." -- Kyle Thompson, Big Fish Consulting "Kirin has an incredibly sharp eye for language and layouts. She capitalizes on her extensive publishing experience and also consults appropriate reference tools to support her copyediting and proofing decisions. Kirin also has an amazing ability to rephrase scientific text to suit an audience and to unravel obscure concepts for the reader in clear, concise terms." -- Douglas Tepper, Former Executive Editor, Science A-ZMarkup

Developmental editing • Copyediting • AI editing • Academic, business, and book editing • Proofreading • Formatting AI is a great tool, and it's not enough for important projects. Whether you employ AI or not, I'll bring a quality human touch to your project. • You need someone with editing skills and ethics you can depend on to polish documents that are important to you. • You need a professional who communicates promptly and clearly and honors deadlines; who doesn't think she knows everything, but wants to learn; and who is supportive, enthusiastic, and fun to work with. • You need a new set of eyes on the material you've labored over to make sure your audience easily absorbs your message. I have years of editing expertise, Master's-level education, and tons of client feedback you can read right here that illustrates my skills and reliability. I'm a native English speaker and have sustained a Top-Rated-Plus status on Upwork for over 10 years. I work with established writers, first-time authors, and non-native-English-speakers writers, and enjoy supporting them all. Whether you need simple proofreading, copy editing, formatting, and/or developmental editing, I treat your documents with the thorough care I give my own. I take the time to understand and produce exactly what you need in your unique voice. That means I listen to what you want the material to do for the reader and what you want me to do for you. “Wow! Mary Beth has been an absolute pleasure to work with. She is marvelous at communication and turned my edit around in virtually no time, but still with an amazing depth of critique, comments, and suggestions. She was happy to cooperate with my requests and to answer all my questions. A real star!” –Upwork clientMarkup
