During my 12 years of industrial experience, I have designed many rugged and reliable embedded systems for the fuel oil and municipal water distribution industries, with my designs being used all the way from road fuel tankers, to city-wide LoRaWAN gateways. Examples of such projects include: • VisiLevel: An ATEX/IECEx certified measurement system comprising a set of probes (liquid level, density, temperature and colour) interconnected via CAN bus to an LCD display unit, powered by an Intrinsically Safe power supply. As well as working on the PCB and firmware development of the system, I was also responsible for the mechanical design of the CNC aluminium probe housing. • StockSmart: An embedded Linux-powered vehicle tracking and datalogger for road fuel tankers. In addition to the PCB design, I was also responsible for the development of the custom Linux OS and the userspace applications running on top. • LoRaWAN Gateway: I developed the complete software stack for a LoRaWAN gateway, consisting of a custom Linux OS, a set of remote management tools, custom LoRaWAN network server and an OTA update system. • Smart Water Meter: I designed the hardware and firmware of a low-power smart water using LoRa for long-range comms, BLE and NFC for communication with a mobile phone app and based around the Nordic nRF52 series of microcontrollers running the Apache mynewt RTOS. As well as having a full electronics lab (oscilloscope, spectrum analyser, debuggers/programmers etc), I also own a 3D printer which, in conjunction with my Solidworks Professional certification, means that I can provide a complete prototyping service that encompasses both the electronic and mechanical aspects of your design.
