Earlier this year, we launched Upwork CoLab, a program where the world’s most iconic brands present a dream brief to our community. For the first collaboration, Budweiser asked creatives to reimagine Budweiser’s legendary can for Labor Day.
In 2016, Creative Director Richard Patrick cofounded Deuce Studio along with his partners Jonny Aldrich and Matthew Down. As a brand design agency based in London, they focus on creating brands with meaning—simple to their core but flexible in their approach.
For this team, everything starts with relationships: a strong rapport with their clients is the key to helping clients build strong relationships with their customers.
The word Deuce is actually a tennis term (a game they happen to love) but it also means “equal in points.” This concept represents them well: a studio where ambitious clients can work directly with the designers producing their work.

As the creative director and co-founder of Deuce Studio in London, Richard left “big agency” life to pursue a dream with friends: build a nimble branding agency that could deliver a personalized approach for their clients. His background in branding and conceptual advertising gives the team the creative edge that international brands like Budweiser are looking for.
Originally from the Midlands in the UK, Jonny met Matt in design school and has known Richard for most of his life. It seems fitting that he acts as the managing director—the face of the operation and the glue that holds it all together. In addition to hands-on conceptual work, Jonny handles initial client interactions and nurtures relationships through collaborative partnership.

A lifelong Londoner, Matt is an experienced designer with a special focus on all things digital. His coding background means he brings an essential perspective to the implementation of their best ideas—and his pragmatic approach to business makes him skilled at handling the day-to-day needs of running the business too.
Hailing from South Africa, Catherine began her career as a copywriter, later moving into planning and strategy over 12 years ago. More recently, she opted to go the freelance route, intrigued by the variety of work and opportunity as well as the ability to more sharply focus on the work itself. Her portfolio now features brands like Pringles, Adidas, McDonald’s, Sensodyne, and more.
