Chapter three says what chapter seven says. The opening explains for nine pages before it earns the reader's attention. The author's voice is strongest in the parts they wrote last. Those are structural problems, and they are fixable. I work in Microsoft Word with Track Changes and margin comments, so you can see every decision and accept or reject it yourself. Chicago Manual of Style unless your publisher asks for something else. What I get asked How do I know which service I need? Send the manuscript and tell me what worries you. If you are unsure whether the structure holds, that is developmental. If the structure is settled and the sentences are heavy, that is line editing. If it is clean and heading to the printer, that is copyediting or proofreading. I will tell you honestly if you are asking for more than you need. Will you change how I sound? No. The edit is there to make you sound like yourself on your clearest day. If a change alters your meaning rather than your clarity, it comes to you as a comment, not a rewrite. Can I see your work before committing? Yes. On projects above 20,000 words, I do a sample edit of 1,500 to 2,000 words, or a written manuscript assessment, before we agree on the full scope. What if I only have transcripts and voice notes? That is ghostwriting, and it is half the work I do. Interviews, course recordings, workshop transcripts, and notes become an outline first, then chapters, with your review at each stage. How long does it take? A 60,000-word developmental edit runs three to four weeks. Copyediting on the same length runs about two. I take one book at a time, so the dates hold.
