It is very easy for you to measure its diameter/radius and then you can find out the area: A = πR². And now you can easily find out the pressure: P = F/A. So far so good. But now let us imagine that the circular shape coin has been replaced with something highly irregular. You do not have a formula to calculate the area of such a shape. This is where FEA comes to your help. It basically divides the complex shape into very small "circles" or "squares" called "elements" whose formula for area is known and it calculates the pressure on each of them and ultimately gives you the combined effects on the whole area. This is precisely what FEA IS and the same analogy holds for any other analysis as well. Nothing more, nothing less! It is not a black box. It is not a magic tool. Any FEA analysis is only as good as the understanding of the person performing that analysis. Hence, what matters the most is: The verification that the person you are intending to hire knows and understands the physics of the problem. And then you may look for their proficiency in any FEA tool. If any FEA analyst, does not know how to validate their findings/results, frankly their results are useless. In this role I have developed models in ANSA, run simulations in Hyperworks Optistruct and post-processed the results in Hyperworks Hyperview. In this position, I have also developed a tool that automatically writes the simulation file, saving the team about half an hour of work for every model and help avoid mistakes. My formal education is in Aerospace Engineering. I have graduated with a First Class MEng in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Southampton, in 2019. During my time in university I have focused on Materials and Structures. On structures side, I have experience in both design and analysis/simulation. In Material science, I have good understanding of both material properties and failure modes, including static, fatigue and creep failures. I also have very good knowledge of composite materials. My biggest projects consisted in designing the structure of a small unmanned jet powered aircraft and in developing an innovative method for non-destructive material testing (NDT). The jet powered aircraft was the first of its kind designed and built at my university.
