Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced Career Counselor to join our team. In this role, you will provide personalized career counseling services, guiding individuals on career exploration, development, and job search strategies. 

You will work collaboratively with clients to assess their skills, interests, and values, creating tailored career paths that align with their goals. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, knowledge of the current job market, and experience in career development or counseling, ideally within an educational setting.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct career assessments. Help clients identify skills, interests, and values to shape their career paths.
  • Offer guidance on career planning. Provide personalized advice on career goals, exploration, and decision-making processes.
  • Develop career plans. Tailor career paths to support clients' short-term and long-term goals, including job search strategies.
  • Support job application preparation. Assist with resume writing, cover letters, interviewing skills, and other job search essentials.
  • Facilitate workshops. Lead group counseling sessions and workshops on career-related topics, including professional development.
  • Stay updated on job market trends. Maintain knowledge of industry developments, job opportunities, and educational programs to guide clients effectively.
  • Collaborate with professionals. Work with other experts in career counseling and human resources to provide comprehensive services.

 

Qualifications and skills

  • Education. A Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Work experience. Proven experience as a Career Counselor, school counselor, or in a related field within higher education or social services.
  • Technical skills. Familiarity with career assessment tools, job market data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and online job postings.
  • Interpersonal skills. Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; ability to work with diverse individuals, including students, people with disabilities, and career changers.
