Geography & Cartography buff for most of my life, now following my passion in digital mapping. • GIS freelancer for the last six and a half years, while building a massive amount of experience in OpenStreetMap, with ~3.9 million map changes through 6900+ changesets, utilizing iD, RapiD (Map With AI), JOSM, OSM Tasking Manager, Overpass Turbo, OSMCha, achavi, etc. Developed-world mapping throughout North American wilderness and back-country, especially in northwestern USA (WA/ID/MT/WY) and northwestern Canada (BC/NT/YK), with my primary focus on establishing/improving road and trail network coherence and clarity. • Current member of OSM Trails Working Group, in an effort to further define different sub-classes of trails within the US, especially those trails whose use is discouraged or illegal, and to organize socialization of these changes to the wider OSM mapping community. • Current member of Public Domain Map project’s initial pilot, mapping railroad tunnels for the Federal Railroad Administration. • Member of HOT (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team) since 2017, with extensive remote mapping throughout the developing world, supporting disaster response and humanitarian aid efforts in under-mapped areas. • In the D.R. Congo, 2017-18, supported anti-Ebola efforts by performing intensive comparison mapping between multiple sources of satellite imagery, GPS trajectory datasets, and legacy raster maps, in order to accurately name villages and establish accurate road network hierarchy and cohesiveness. • Temporary HOT staff, April & May 2019, for response to Cyclone Idai in Mozambique/Zimbabwe. Handled map export requests from partner humanitarian organizations and created and maintained the project overview map via uMap browser-based software. • Subsequently took leadership role in 2019 mapping responses for Cyclone Lekima (Japan), Hurricane Dorian (Bahamas), and Chiquitano Wildfires (Bolivia), evaluating available imagery and tracking task completion within Tasking Manager and project wiki. • Worked in tandem with the United Nations Maps Project in 2020, mapping central Somalia for the United Nations Global Service Centre. • Experience with ArcGIS and QGIS, geocoding and creating custom maps for clients in a variety of applications, including real estate/lot plotting, conservation and mass transit patterns.
