Greetings, my name is Derrick. Music Producer by day, UX Researcher by night. As a producer and as a researcher I love hearing my client's vision and bringing it all to life. You can count on me to find the bugs in your app and conduct heaps of research, all without missing a beat. I bring a positive mindset to work, manage my time exceptionally and have a keen sense for details. I originally got into UX Research after not being able to find a decent project management app for managing music projects. I needed an app that could handle diagramming, audio files, encryption and multiple ways to view the same data. The lack of such an app in the market sent me spiraling into a new passion; UX Research. Whenever I spoke to people about my work--as a musician--they were often surprised by how much software my job required. Most couldn't relate directly, however they faced their own UX nightmares of frozen windows, buttons that were too small and software crucial to their jobs not working when they needed it most. Through networking I lucked upon this same conversation, but this time, with two UX/UI Developers. On two separate occasions I was informed to look into UX Research; once I did I was in absolute love with the field. Music Production | My 6 Step Process 1. Songwriting - I write unique melodies, bass lines, harmonies, chord progressions, and rhythms that match your voice and brand. I don't use stock loops or samples, unless requested, to ensure an original and authentic sound. 2. Arranging - I will arrange musical elements differently depending on whether I'm scoring to picture, video game, audiobook, podcast, or other media. This makes it simple and straightforward for you to implement my music into your project. 3. Recording - As an experienced pianist and keyboardist, I can record your music with a vast selection of virtual instruments and software. Rather than simply clicking and dragging MIDI notes, which results in music sounding digital and dull, I use high-end MIDI keyboards that give me more dynamic and expressive control while recording. This allows me as an electronic producer to create music that sounds alive, organic, and full of emotion. 4. Editing - I invest time fine-tuning and micro-editing each vocal and instrumental recording. This includes tasks like auto-tuning, quantizing, drum-comping, and more. I have edited hundreds of hours of audio, so my ears have been trained to notice subtle yet essential details. 5. Mixing - I use practices like volume balancing, track panning, effect automation, compression, reverb, delay, and more to make the song come to life and be sonically balanced. Depending on how well the individual tracks were recorded and edited, this step can be time-consuming or straightforward. 6. Mastering - This is the final polishing up of a mix before it's exported. I attended a 6-month mastering course which enhanced the quality of my mixes immensely. The benefit of proper mixing and mastering is that your music will sound great on all types of speakers, headphones, and stereo systems.
