I turn a business process nobody has written down properly into a design an engineer can build — then stay through implementation. The one I point to most: a single sign-on ecosystem I designed and built for 2,600+ users across Java, PHP and .NET. 13+ years, mostly enterprise and public-sector systems. What that has looked like: • Single Sign-On ecosystem (PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV) — initiated and designed the ecosystem where no prior internal effort existed, built the Java EE core myself, and designed the Portal and Access Management components. Two phases, roughly three months, six people. Replaced separate logins for 2,600+ users across Java, PHP, and .NET applications. • Performance management rebuild (PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV) — led a seven-person team rebuilding an appraisal system on Java EE, Service-Oriented Architecture, and SQL Server stored procedures. Four months, around 600 executive users. The data and performance failures reported against the previous version did not recur in the observed appraisal period. • Customs import integration (PT Teknoglobal) — built two Java EE flat-file parsers plus document-validation and multithreaded background-processing services for a national customs system, consuming import and banking data delivered through an IBM MQ messaging layer. I owned those modules; I did not build the messaging infrastructure and I did not lead the wider project. • Mobile content ecosystem, 2023–2026 — architected and led the v2 backend rebuild after the original could not scale past inconsistent data and a schema that resisted new features. Designed the database, coded the core processing, and led a team of QA, mobile, and web developers. A compatibility API let existing clients run against the new backend, so the cutover carried users across without significant disruption. • Most recently — specified and led a C#/.NET 8 WPF refactoring that separated the user interface from background services over gRPC, then built a REST-based Cloud Sync worker linking the desktop client to a Next.js platform. I handed that work over on completion of my scope in July 2026; the client team continues development. Since August 2026 I work independently under my own trade name, currently delivering a landing page and registration flow for a member-based organization (Go, MariaDB). Where I am useful: enterprise integration, single sign-on and access flows, internal tools and workflow systems, procurement and ERP-adjacent processes, legacy modernization, and backend work in Java, C#/.NET, or PHP/Laravel. Where I am not: SAP configuration or ABAP, mobile-first product design, data science, and anything requiring a cloud architecture certification I do not hold. I work to an agreed schedule, put delivery risks in writing early, and tell you when something I designed turns out to be wrong.

What does an Oracle SOA Suite developer do?

An Oracle SOA Suite developer builds and orchestrates composite applications on the Oracle Fusion Middleware platform to connect disparate enterprise systems. This specialist designs service-oriented architectures by assembling components such as BPEL processes, Oracle Mediator routing logic, business rules, and human tasks into unified integration solutions. They manage the full lifecycle of these composites, from initial design in Oracle JDeveloper to deployment on the Oracle WebLogic Server runtime environment.

  • Design and author complex service orchestration workflows using BPEL Process Manager and BPMN standards within Oracle JDeveloper. The developer defines how data moves between services, configures error handling policies, and implements business logic through visual designers and XML source code. This work ensures that multi-step business processes execute reliably across different backend systems without manual intervention.
  • Implement service mediation and routing logic using Oracle Mediator to transform message formats and direct traffic between incompatible applications. The developer creates WSDL-based bindings and configures adapters to enable communication with databases, legacy systems, and cloud services. They assemble composite application artifacts, including composite.xml files and component definitions, to wire these services together correctly for deployment.
  • Deploy and administer SOA composite applications on the Oracle SOA Infrastructure runtime using tools like Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control. The developer uses WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) or ant scripts to automate deployment tasks and manage configuration plans across development, testing, and production environments. They monitor active instances, troubleshoot faults in running processes, and optimize performance to maintain system stability and throughput.

How to hire an Oracle SOA Suite developer on Upwork

Step 1: Post a job

Define your integration requirements clearly to attract qualified candidates. Use the Job Post Generator powered by Uma™, Upwork's Mindful AI to draft a precise description. Describe your needs in a few sentences and Uma drafts a job post for the role. You can write a new post, update a saved draft, or reuse an existing post.

  • Specify experience with Oracle JDeveloper for creating SOA composite projects and defining service interfaces.
  • List required proficiency in designing BPEL processes, Oracle Mediator routing, and business rules.
  • Include expectations for deploying composite applications to Oracle WebLogic Server using WLST or ant scripts.

Step 2: Evaluate candidates

Review portfolios for evidence of complex service orchestration and deployment success. Uma can run instant video interviews and build shortlists with side-by-side comparisons. Look for specific artifacts that demonstrate technical depth and operational competence.

  • Check for delivered SOA composite application artifacts such as composite.xml and component definitions.
  • Verify hands-on work with WSDL-based bindings and adapter configurations within SOA composites.
  • Confirm experience administering deployed composites via Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control.

Step 3: Interview your top choices

Discuss technical approaches to process orchestration and error handling. Interviews can be scheduled and conducted within Upwork Messages with an immediate transcript and summary after each one. Focus on practical problem-solving skills relevant to your infrastructure.

  • Ask how they structure BPEL processes for long-running transactions and fault management.
  • Discuss their method for wiring service references and managing WSDL dependencies in large composites.
  • Explore their strategy for automating deployments across development, testing, and production environments.

Step 4: Agree on scope and begin work

Set clear milestones for developing and deploying specific service components. Use Upwork Messages and the contract workroom for communication and project management, plus identity verification, payment protection, hourly tracking, and project funds for security. Define deliverables explicitly to avoid ambiguity.

  • Require delivery of tested BPEL implementations and configured Mediator routing rules.
  • Mandate submission of deployment-ready composite packages with configuration plans for target environments.
  • Establish monitoring protocols using Oracle Enterprise Manager for ongoing operational support.

Frequently asked questions

Is hiring an Oracle SOA Suite developer worth it?

For most businesses, yes: hiring an Oracle SOA Suite developer is worthwhile. These specialists build and orchestrate composite applications that connect disparate systems using BPEL processes and Oracle Mediator. They handle the complex wiring of service-oriented architectures so your team can focus on core business logic rather than integration plumbing.

How do I evaluate Oracle SOA Suite developer candidates?

Review their experience designing BPEL processes and assembling composite application artifacts in Oracle JDeveloper. Ask them to explain how they configure service references and deploy composites to the Oracle SOA runtime using tools like WLST or ant.

What tools does an Oracle SOA Suite developer use?

An Oracle SOA Suite developer primarily uses Oracle JDeveloper to design composites and manage BPEL workflows. They also rely on Oracle Enterprise Manager Fusion Middleware Control for deployment and monitoring tasks.

What deliverables should I expect from an Oracle SOA Suite developer?

You should receive deployment-ready composite packages that include configured BPEL processes and service definitions. The developer will also submit operational setup instructions for managing these composites in your Oracle runtime environment.
