During the third quarter, we introduced a variety of updates that are designed to make your work on Upwork easier—whether you’re an independent professional, a business owner seeking talent, or a leader of a large organization. From showcasing your services to finding specific professionals in search, working on Upwork is now more seamless than ever before.
Click on any of the filters below to read more about the specific updates that impact you the most—or check them all out to see the many ways in which Upwork is dedicated to improving how we work now.
We redesigned the contract workroom to make it easier for all Upwork users to manage their work agreements. Now, when you click on an active contract, you’ll see:
When working in your account, you can now search through files (under Files & Links), view images in your browser before you download them, and easily download or delete files as needed
New updates to Project Catalog make it easier for talent and clients to connect in the right ways. Independent professionals can more clearly communicate what they offer, and clients know exactly what they’re ordering (and how much it will cost) upfront.
When using Project Catalog to sell services, you can now customize each tier to more accurately reflect what you do. Users are no longer restricted to the default “starter,” “standard,” and “advanced” options—you can create your own custom tier labels and descriptions to fit any need.
These new custom tiers also help clients searching Project Catalog get better results when looking for a professional to help them with a project.
Whether you’re setting your rate for the first time or are thinking about changing what you charge, we’ve built a new Rate Calculator that can help.
The Rate Calculator considers both your monthly expense inputs and the amount of hours you’d like to work every month to calculate the minimum rate you may want to charge your clients. You can then use talent search to compare this suggested rate to other professionals on Upwork with similar skill sets and services to you, and see where you fall.
After a limited rollout across select industries, we found that both talent and clients enjoyed the ability to schedule one-on-one consultations. As a result, we’ve now opened this feature to anyone using Project Catalog™ to offer or search for services. Consultations are a great choice for:
As an independent professional, you can create a consultation offering in Project Catalog and then easily meet with clients through Zoom. Clients can then find and purchase these consultations directly from talent profiles or by searching Project Catalog.
If your Upwork account becomes restricted or you receive a warning due to a Terms of Service violation, you’ll now see a notice at the top of every page when logged into your Upwork account.
This message will offer you the opportunity to fix the violation. You can also opt to report the restriction or warning as an error and work with a member of the Upwork team to resolve the issue.
It is important to get all the right information in your first Upwork job post to have a quick, successful response—which is why we’re introducing a new feature that will help you create a great post. As you begin writing your first job post on Upwork, you’ll get guidance on best practices to help you:
New Upwork users will see these best practices the first time they log into Upwork and create a job post.
Clients who are interested in sourcing their own talent without the help of a Talent Scout recruiter can continue to do so—and easily loop colleagues into the decision-making process.
We’ve added the ability to share Upwork talent profiles with anyone directly from your Virtual Talent Bench, and the recipient doesn’t need to have an Upwork account to view the profiles. This means that you can work more quickly by getting buy-in from others on your team by quickly sharing a link.
Because Enterprise clients often have many team leaders and departments accessing Upwork, we’ve made it even easier to understand how your company uses the platform by introducing new features.
Many of our Enterprise clients enjoy working with talent in different locations and time zones. We’re introducing talent characteristics and outcome reporting features that allow you to learn more about the types of freelancers your teams like to work with. This report includes information on:
When paired with your Talent Cloud, this reporting feature is yet another way to identify great talent for a project and see how your teams work with freelancers.
All of these features are ready for you right now—just create or log into your Upwork account to try them out and get started working in new ways.
Have questions about an update or suggestions for a new feature? Get involved in the Upwork Community to stay abreast of product updates, learn more about the ways you can use Upwork, and get answers to your questions from the Upwork team and other users.

Talent Scout recruiters are now able to help match client companies with the project or product management talent they seek by providing a list of qualified talent based on the client’s needs.
Simply tell us about your project needs, and we’ll provide the shortlist of great candidates. These product and project managers are pre-vetted and available for projects of at least 30 days in length.
Independent project and product managers on the Upwork platform can request to be considered for these shortlists by getting in touch with the Talent Scout team.
