Biographical writer, translator and copy-editor

I defended my Ph.D at Johns Hopkins University in September 2015 where I had spent the past six years teaching history and basic writing skills to undergraduates who were both native and non-native speakers of English. During this time, I edited hundreds of student papers and dozens of my colleagues' articles and chapters for submission. I am familiar with Chicago, MLA and APA citation styles, and I understand the importance of proper source attribution in non-fiction. I am eager to apply my research and editing skills to your academic project! My own writing style is crisp and simple. I believe in short sentences that get right to the point. I read English, French, Italian and Latin and have a firm grasp of sentence syntax and argumentative structure. I received a 790 (99th percentile) on the verbal component of the GRE in 2008. I specialize in forms of biographical writing (which was the focus of my dissertation): job cover letters, statements of purpose for post-secondary programs, recommendation letters and character references. A main component of successful biographical writing is a personal touch, and I am available to discuss a client's background and skills over skype before embarking on a new project. I also revise training manuals and telemarketing scripts. I love copy-editing because learning something new is such a joy! I take on beta-reading projects for historical fiction and fantasy at EXTREMELY reduced hourly rates for the same reason -- because they are fun! My portfolio contains examples of my writing. I cannot often share the edited work that I deliver clients, so I also offer potential clients a small sample (250 words) edit of their text. I charge sliding rates based on the nature of the job: For copyediting: 25 USD/hr For research and proofreading: 18 USD/hr If your editing or writing job is for a non-profit or otherwise concerned with helping others, I offer a reduced rate of 15 USD (at my discretion and applied after the completion of work). "Dr. Stein's work on the manuscript helped me to see some perspectives at how my writing could be received in a manner which I was not trying to convey. This awareness of the negative tone of berating the reader although unintended made the read difficult in part and yet she continued. Her suggestions were spot on and gave my method pause which is a good thing. Dr. Stein had nice things to say and I appreciated that.
