Python mySQL developer
"Ruchi seemed like good dev, mainly we just can't afford her hourly rate so we are ending the contract. Also, we did have one experience where she wanted to spend 4 hours on a task that should only take 15 minute. This made me feel like she was trying to add extra work where possible and hence I also lost some trust. When I explained the quicker way to complete the task she was happy to do so, however, as she is a dev, I shouldn't have to explain the quicker way to do a simple server migration task."

"Thanks for your feedback. I guess you should talk to me if you have any doubt about the number of hours. No one is going to be a king by just 4 hours of work :) You had a python website hosted on AWS with local MySQL DB that is not accessible from outside. You wanted to split it into two parts. 1st home page with WordPress website(currently part of python) and 2nd python App. You are also looking for further development where the WordPress membership plugin controls app users and their rights. You have a prebuild home page in WordPress developed on the Namecheap server. The requirement was that your primary domain would point to WordPress, and a subdomain points to the Python app on AWS. Now I had two approaches. 1. Use two different servers. WordPress will host on Namecheap like it is already there and point domain nameserver on that. Point subdomain on AWS server and keep both of them on two different servers. But the problem that I noticed is a. two server costing b. Both servers have separate Databases that are locally installed. So if I have to fetch or send data between WordPress and APP, I need to create an API layer. For example, If we integrate the membership plugin in WordPress, how will the app know which user purchases a membership and when his subscription is going to expire. To fulfill this requirement, we need to create an API at both ends that will take longer than 4 hours. So I suggested the second approach that I am going to explain next. 2. Keep both WordPress and Python apps on the same EC2 instance and point both domain and subdomain there. Also, as they are on the same server, they can use the same database, so no need to develop any API. I was supposed to change folder structure and move WordPress from Namecheap to AWS and point domain. For this process, I gave him a quote for 4 hours. I told him to take the second approach. It will take 4 hours, but it will save the cost of API layer development. But he thought I was charging him extra because, in step 1, we have only to point domain. He didn't think about API layer costing. As a developer, I tried to give him a long-term vision, but he took for short-term approach."
