Your retention problem isn't a mystery to me, it's the thing I edit for. Long-form YouTube editing is where I focus: documentary-style storytelling, pacing built around a narrative arc, motion graphics that support the story instead of sitting on top of it. I think about why someone keeps watching past the first three seconds, and more importantly, why they're still there ten minutes in. That's the harder problem, and it's the one most editors don't actually solve they cut for the hook and hope the middle holds itself together. I don't work that way. Every cut earns the next one. I also cut fast-paced Reels and TikTok when a project needs it, so short-form speed is available, it's just not where I want to spend most of my time. Back in 2024, still in high school, I co-directed a short film called Crescendo the first time I ran a creative project from idea to final cut with an actual crew and actual deadlines.
