To resolve this, I designed and developed an analytics tool which provided users with instant access to tens of millions of lines of transaction information summarised into an easy-to-use Excel interface. This involved building ETL pipelines from the accounting ledger system into an SQL database, I then processed the transaction data through an SSAS OLAP cube and the piped the results into a flexible Excel Pivot interface. This made it much faster and much easier for users to query the ledger and extract the information they needed. It allowed each user to easily create personalised sets of high-level or granular investigation reports. This single report was estimated to save over 100 man-hours of the reporting teams' time each month, a saving of over 550,000 GBP (approx. 750,000 USD) to date. ➡️ Customer Profitability System: This system loaded data from four different front-end business systems into a single data warehouse. It then performed reconciliations between the multiple systems and raised alerts if there were any inconsistencies. It then applied business rules to calculate various performance KPIs from the data. This system cut down the time taken by the month end reporting process from 5 days to under 2 hours. It also reduced PnL attribution errors from roughly 10% to under 0.05%. I then built a reporting interface that allowed the team to have access to improved analytics that showed high level trends and gave the ability to dig into the results and identify individual drivers behind those trends.
