TRAVEL PLANNER / TRAVEL DESIGNER: I run the family office of a notable American family and am personally responsible for their travel arrangements. Whilst we have a team who looks after most of their arrangements one member of the family would like external individual support for their travel. Who I am looking for: Someone with substantial experience of luxury travel planning. Even more importantly, someone who can think big and come up with well-researched creative ideas. We are not interested in experiences that everyone else does and would rather feel that what you plan is unique – just for us. If you are UK-based that would be perfect but USA-based could work also. The skills: You’ll probably need a minimum of 4 years luxury travel experience – but we’re willing to consider less. You might have worked for top-tier companies like Fisher Travel, Indagare or Pro Travel in the USA or Hudson & Brown, Red Savannah, Black Tomato or A&K in the UK. Perhaps you are a travel journalist looking to use your expertise in different ways. That could be interesting too. If you have experience of dealing with demanding wealthy individuals so much the better. A knowledge of jet and yacht charters would be useful. Our principal generally has a budget that gives free reign to a trip planner’s creativity. I can’t stress enough the importance curiosity and your own thorough original research. We are more interested in your ideas than those of an in-country local operator who is just selling the same thing to thousands of other people. That said we understand that you may need to involve third parties. You should be creative, smart and not afraid to propose never-been-done-before unconventional ideas. Your attention to detail has to be verging on obsessive because the people you will be working for are obsessive about their travel and the time they spend travelling. On occasions you might be invited to join the family on their travels but this is neither essential nor required. It would be preferable if you were receptive to the idea of working odd hours, and occasional week-ends. We reward hard work, dedication, great experiences and require absolute discretion. The first project we are looking for you to work on is in the UK. We’re looking for a trip that connects stays in castles, fine hotels and introduces our principal to members of the British aristocracy in England and Scotland. The love having access to interesting people who are not to be found on the well-worn touristic path. They also like to meet people like them in different parts of the world - as well as people who are seriously unlike them. Philanthropy and ensuring their kids are grounded is really important to them. If the above resonates please get in touch.
