I am a freelance print and web designer with a client list that includes some of the nation’s top business, publishing and high-tech companies. Businesses like Amazon, CarFAX, The National Wildlife Federation, MIT, American Bar Association, and The American Gas Association can all attest to my award-winning work. Soon, I hope you’ll be able to do so, too. I began freelancing in early 1999 after a successful tenure as the creative director for the magazine group at Potomac, MD-based Phillips International, a leading publisher with $350 million in annual sales. While heading the design department, I oversaw the creative direction of nine magazines, seven of which I redesigned. The job also required close coordination and communication with the company’s web development team. My mission is simple. I provide complete, high-quality graphic and web design solutions that help clients meet marketing, sales and publishing objectives. I have a proven track record of delivering top-notch products, from four-color ads in national print magazines and sales marketing collateral to handling every aspect of the magazine publishing process. And it’s all done with the guarantee of fast, cost-effective and friendly service. I truly understand the demands of custom publishing, whether the finished product is a brochure, industry white paper or web site. I look forward to hearing from you soon.Desktop Publishing

Hello! My name is Bob Christie, and I want you to know that if you want writing or editing that results in a clear and concise message to your audience with no room for misunderstanding, then I am ready to help! I have been freelancing since 2016; because most of the projects I work on are fixed price assignments, the number of Upwork hours you see on my profile is misleading. I have amassed dozens of hours writing pieces of up to 70K words and 200 pages in length. As a test preparation tutor since 2002 (SAT, ACT, and others), I have been teaching the conventions of standard written English as well as editing student essays and working with students to critique and analyze articles of varying degrees of difficulty and on a wide range of topics. Regarding mathematics, I am able to compose and explain problems from simple equations to more complex word problems. This includes my using the "Math Type" software program to ensure that equations and other mathematical notations display exactly as they should. During my career, I have also written training and instructional documentation and that has become somewhat of a niche for me as a freelancer. When you need instructions to be presented or policies to be explained, I can produce fliers or manuals that will inform your readers and not leave them confused or frustrated by poor messaging. In addition to completing longer assignments, I have written articles and blog posts on a variety of topics, many of which required research on my part. I have also ghost written a 10,000 + word ebook and composed grammar and vocabulary questions. I am comfortable working in MS Office 2016 and have a working knowledge of other desktop publishing platforms; I have recently begun to produce material in Scrivener as well. The part time nature of my tutoring allows me to spend a great deal of time on my freelance writing and editing. I am a firm believer in communication with a client whenever anything is unclear about an assignment, and I respect time frames, understanding that when you hire me, you have probably made a commitment to someone else. Please contact me, and I know that I will exceed your expectations by producing work that meets the highest standards.Desktop Publishing

With over 14 years in the indie publishing industry, I know what goes into producing a novel. I’ve been in your shoes, and I can appreciate the work it takes to see your masterpiece come to life. I have been professionally writing since 2010. In that time, I’ve penned and published more than 30 books, including two on the writing and publishing process. When I’m not writing novels, I have a regular column on First Comics News, I run a weekly publishing podcast, and I'm the owner of Rising Sign Books, an a la carte self-publishing assistance service. I have an intimate understanding of the process and financial burden of editing, formatting, and covering a book. I've been in the trenches, so I know how to help you get through this process, so you can enjoy the thrill of holding your book in your hands. EDITING An extra set of eyes, impartial to the story, is exactly what you need in the final stage of writing to produce something for public consumption. Authors are too close to their work to see the mistakes. Our brains play a little trick on us when we read our writing. We know what we meant to say, so our brain puts that filter on as we read the brilliance we’ve slaved over. I can provide that extra set of eyes needed to catch plot holes, inconsistencies, and grammatical mishaps. There are two levels of editing every manuscript should go through before being published. Developmental—Corrects content. Content level editing that focuses on plot structure, characters and their arcs, consistency in characterization, dialogue, and believability. A developmental edit will generate considerable revisions and sometimes rewriting. Copyediting—Corrects language only. Spelling, capitalization, punctuation, verb tenses, sentence structure, paragraph lengths, echoes, word choices, & missed words. A copyedit will generate a grammatically clean manuscript. BOOK FORMATTING Layout, and design is quite a frustrating process, and each version (ebook, softcover, and hardcover) will have different layout requirements (see your printer’s FAQ’s for specifics). I can help. My book formatting services include the following: Standardizing font, paragraphs, and justifying text Copyright page verbiage Table of Contents (clickable for ebook) Active Hyperlinks (clickable for ebooks) Custom headers for chapters, acknowledgments, forwards, and dedications Drop Caps (if requested) Bullets, number lists Page Numbering Chapter starting on the right side (if requested) BOOK COVER CREATION For cover creation, I take a multi-step process to create a book design that speaks to the genre, target age range, and format the book will be delivered in. Before we begin, I will need some information from you about your specific project, so feel free to reach out and let's discuss your publishing needs. For more information about me and the author services I provide, please stop by my Rising Sign Books website, or you can look me up by name for social proof (Katie Salidas). You can read customer reviews and check out other ways to assist you in bringing your book to the market!Desktop Publishing
