My name is Manish Kumar Chauhan, an entrepreneur turned full-time fundraising consultant. After exiting my first venture, I transitioned into full-time consulting, helping organizations secure B2B and B2G partnerships, institutional funding, and grants. My role required not only building strategic partnerships but also bringing in grants and fundraising opportunities. I secured my first grant in 2019, worth US$5,178, for my own bootstrapped startup. Later, I had the opportunity to work with one of India's leading nonprofit organizations, where the scale changed dramatically. The grant size increased to US$1.55 million for a single three-year project, while I simultaneously managed more than 10 projects as a Program Manager. During this journey, I learned one important lesson: Winning grants is not just about responding to RFPs or writing great proposals. It's about building relationships with grantmakers. This may sound different from what many grant writers promote, but my experience has taught me that successful fundraising is a blend of relationship building, strategic positioning, and strong implementation. My process for working with impact organizations and nonprofits is straightforward: 1. We sign a mutual NDA. 2. I review your organization's previous projects, team, financials, and existing partnerships. 3. I research the most suitable grants, impact funds, foundations, CSR opportunities, and other funding sources. 4. I help identify the right people within donor organizations, including decision-makers and, where available, their professional contact details. Your job is to start the conversation. 5. Based on your discussions with potential donors, we brainstorm together and shape the project concept. 6. I help transform that concept into a compelling grant proposal. 7. Whenever possible, we validate the proposal with the donor and seek feedback before submitting. 8. We submit the proposal and continue engaging with the donor throughout the review process. 9. If you receive an acknowledgment, requests for additional information, or an invitation to present, I support you by developing a data-driven storytelling presentation aligned with the donor's priorities. 10. Once you receive your first grant tranche, I can continue supporting your team with implementation planning, baseline studies, donor visit preparation, progress reports, utilization certificates, and strategies for securing future funding tranches. Grant fundraising is not a one-time activity. To receive future tranches and build long-term donor relationships, organizations must submit utilization certificates, progress reports, address project deviations, and consistently demonstrate measurable impact.
