My passion for technology and systems integration began in the late 80s when I worked as a file clerk tracking loans in the secondary market using manual 3x5 cards. Despite not having a computer background, I believed there had to be a more efficient way to store this information electronically. I approached our IT department to see if we had an operational system that could streamline the process. Collaborating with them, we developed a data entry program specifically for tracking these loans. It proved to be extremely cost-effective and easy to administer. This experience opened the door for me to move into the IT department. I built on my baseline knowledge and taught myself programming while working for a company that sold time on their mainframe. During slow periods on the 2nd shift, I taught myself how to program by writing a loan amortization program in COBOL. I continued to expand my IT and programming support skills. I added VBA and Excel to my experience, again self-taught, to create a system for a health insurance group to input data and generate proposals. My continuous learning has enabled me to work successfully as a freelance VBA programmer for over 20 years. Notable projects include: Developing a CMS system for a condo management company in Seattle to track maintenance schedules and tasks. Creating a parking space tracking system in Google Sheets to monitor guest parking spot usage. Building a CMS system for a physical therapy company to track therapy sessions for cancer patients at all stages. Designing a dynamic forecast worksheet for Fiskars. This involved a single worksheet that automatically adjusted based on the selection of five interconnected and self-populating cascading slicers connected to 12 pivot tables. The program included a method for tracking forecasting sessions, which could be recalled or removed as needed.

I am an MS Access Developer and Programmer. Most of my clients use MS Access on the front end and MS SQL Server on the Back End. I don't just build MS Access Databases, I program them to do almost anything. I can repair or upgrade your MS Access applications. I have been training others to do what I do for decades now. With a Master's in Computer Science, no project is too complex for me. You can drop me right in to your MS Access crisis meeting with your customer. I will represent you faithfully and professionally in any way you like, whether you are there or not. I have done this many times this year and everyone always comes out satisfied. I can say that I work for you if you like. I can document your entire application and write out any problems. I can train your client or your legacy developer to solve problems by themselves. I write lengthy VBA procedures and SQL Stored Procedures, with rich, self documenting comments. Just let me know what you need. It does not need to be perfectly documented for me to get started. I can hold a Zoom video meeting with you and get started from that.

With the prevalence of web-based and mobile applications and the emergence of cloud computing, the desktop DBMS market, where MS Access is a significant player, is migrating to server-based, multi-user database solutions for new development. Consequently, the pool of qualified Access developers is rapidly shrinking. But some developers still recognize Access's continued viability as a rapid development tool and are committed to the ongoing support of its embedded base. I am one of those developers that have chosen to continue supporting Access. I also find it practical to progress to mobile and cloud-based applications by integrating server-based databases into new or existing Access applications. For these reasons, I offer Access solution services to companies and businesses interested in preserving their current Access applications or developing new ones, quickly and inexpensively. I have been providing database solutions for the last 15 years. During those years, I designed, built, and administered databases in support of various applications, mostly while working for AT&T. Corporate solutions call for large scale database systems, which is why I dedicated most of my career to SQL Server programming. However, I continued to use Access to support rapid in-house solutions for smaller operations. Access allowed me to put together forms and reports to meet short-fused requests for which time or funding was insufficient to solve at a larger scale. Now that I have moved from the corporate world to the independent worker sector, I have chosen to offer well-established skills to assist those with MS Access projects. During the last six months, I worked on a template for using Access as the front-end to a Microsoft SQL Server database. My objective was to provide the means to quickly and efficiently build entry forms and reports for a SQL Server database. I chose to combine the optimized data presentation methods offered by Access with the more advanced data aggregation and manipulation constructs provided by SQL Server to meet my objective. I have successfully created an interface that effectively handles the communication between the two systems without compromising performance and efficiency. I have enjoyed working with data throughout my career. With data becoming an essential instrument of the 21st century, I am excited about the prospect of facing the new challenges of developing data solutions in a data-aware world. I have chosen to work with Access because it is a proven tool for rapid and cost-effective database application development. If you have an ongoing project or wish to explore cost-effective solutions using Access, please contact me to discuss your options.
