Hi all! I had a successful run with UpWork a few years back and decided to take a break to focus on my career and education. I am back now, hopeful and willing to take on any Excel/Access and custom scripting projects. I formerly worked as a metrology lab supervisor (if you want to talk about measuring things in nanometers we can do that too!), quality engineer, and in quality managmeent. I have a heavy background in industrial quality control but that has proven quite useful in programming and the way it is approached. I have been an avid amateur programmer for several years. I have learned some languages to an extent; C,C++,C#, Python and VB.NET to name a few. My strong skills have always resided in Excel and Access and utilizing VBA. I soon became the Subject Matter Expert at my place of employment and gained a lot of experience but also realized that I had found a niche and I really enjoyed this type of work. I began a strong 3 year stint in 2014, with stellar results, on UpWork and tackled several challenging and complex projects. I took a break to pursue furthering my education and advancing my career while still performing small updates or projects for established clients. I have recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and Engineering, have received ASQ certifications, and pursued specialized training. I am back to be of service and look forward to hearing from you, hopefully work on some exciting projects, gain some knowledge, and make lasting connections.

Need a new system built from scratch based on your requirements? That's where I come in. I'm a senior software engineer with 22+ years of specialized MS Access development experience and 27+ years in IT. My specialty: taking aging Access applications and modernizing them without disrupting your business. Career highlight: I converted Whitley Manufacturing's UA Corporate Accounting system from Access 97 to Access 2019 with a SQL Server 2019 backend - 60+ modules, 1M+ lines of VBA, split front-end/back-end architecture. The system continued running production accounting throughout the conversion. Core services: - MS Access application modernization (Access 97, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019, 365 - all versions) - New MS Access applications built from your business requirements - MS Access to SQL Server upsizing with linked tables and pass-through queries - Advanced VBA development including error handling, class modules, COM/Office automation - Split front-end/back-end architectures for multi-user environments - Complex query optimization and performance tuning - Office Automation (Excel, Outlook, Word) - Custom label printing, FTP, web integrations, and third-party API connections - Database design, normalization, and indexing strategy My approach: understand your actual business need first, then deliver reliable software that outlives the project. You get honest scoping and steady communication throughout. Available for remote engagements ranging from short-term projects to ongoing maintenance. Time zone: Eastern (US). Ready to discuss your project? Send an Upwork message with a brief description of what you're working with, and I'll respond with specific next steps. Thanks for reading. Richard G Taylor God Bless.

I love MS Access and VBA, they've been my passion for over 25 years and I've become a pro at developing amazing apps and automating. My apps are top quality: user-friendly, very well thought out, packed with functionality yet simple to use, and are developed with an eye towards minimal clicking and thinking for the user. Automation and streamlining is a constant theme in everything I do. I believe that you and people in your company shouldn't do ANY manual repeating tasks because they can all be automated. I'm excellent at automation, I will ask a ton of questions to learn your workflow and will then develop an app that will do most of your work for you. I can also do anything you need when it comes to updating existing MS Access applications, automating your workflow, converting Excel sheets to MS Access applications, converting MS Access applications to SQL or to newer versions of MS Access, and writing Excel macros. I'm quick to reply to messages I'm easy to work with, no condescension here :) I have many libraries of reusable VBA code, forms, and reports, which greatly speed up development
