Although new to Upwork, I am an experienced Access and Excel VBA Programmer, as well as a seasoned database administrator/designer. I have worked on Access and Excel projects for over twenty years. I have worked on a variety of projects. Some simple in design with just a few database tables, to large complex databases with many database tables. Over time, I have developed several Access Class Objects that greatly simply the implementation of complex routines. These class objects are available for use in your project(s) with no additional fee or royalty. The objects are described in the following paragraphs. DRAG AND DROP - this is a capability that is not native to Access. It allows the user to grab a screen control and then drag it to another location on the form. For example, rearranging the entries on a schedule, like changing a clients appointment date or time. SEARCHING A DATABASE TABLE - This object makes it easy to implement the task of searching for an entry in a database table. To the user it appears as if they are using a standard dropdown control, but with the ability to type in search criteria. (For example, searching for customers, vendors, products, accounts, etc.) I can usually make a field on a form searchable in less than an hour. This object used on key controls saves time and frustration for database users. Rather than scroll through a long list, they can type in the criteria to limit the list. SECURE DATABASE ACCESS - This object model allows you to secure user access to the database. beyond the native capabilities of Windows/Access. This can be implemented at both the form level and at the field/control level. LOGGING/AUDIT TRAIL - This object model provides a log/audit trail of database access and changes with minimal coding. You can easily see who changed what and when they did it. ERROR AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT MESSAGING - communicating effectively with the user has always been problematic with Access. To address this, I created this object to standardize and simply communication with the user. The object is used to issue acknowledgement messages, like a record has successfully been added. Error messages of differing severity, warning, error, or sever. The messages are display beneath the field/control in error, and the error control's outline is highlighted in red. Making it easy for the user to see what is wrong. Lastly, years ago, I was in charge of database administration for the Walt Disney Company. I am extremely fluent in VBA, using various Object Models, i.e. Access, Excel, DAO, ADO, SQL, Class Modules, SQL Server T-SQL, Stored Procedures and Custom Functions and Triggers, SSMS, SSRS, and SSIS, etc. I write code that a lay person can understand. Where this is not possible, I comment the purpose and flow of the Code. I do not implement limitations, as a lot of developers do, that force the Client to always call on the developer every time a little change is needed. I develop in such a way that considers future expansion. The only time I would ever need to be called upon is to implement new functionality. I prefer to teach Clients the basics so that they can make the subtle physical design changes to the interface that they want, without destroying the integrity of the system. Because I follow the rules of development, the system is straight forward and easily understood. I have custom designed databases for over 35 years. Twenty-one of these years were with the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). I was asked to spend one year in Sacramento analyzing all of CDFA's systems. My strong suits are system analysis, database modeling and creation, data extraction, validation, cleansing and transformation, presentations, mapping and training. I enjoy the challenge of taking a spreadsheet, analyzing why it was created and turning it into a functional MS Access database that provides a user-friendly interface, timely reports and searches. Often after these systems have been proven they end up being used to the extent where I migrate the back end to SQL Server and a web and/or desktop application for the front end (user interface). Once these projects had been accomplished, the client often wanted to place their archived data into the same system. This archived data often exists in many different formats including db2, dbase III, paradox, filemaker, text files, and many spreadsheet versions. Many of which were no longer operational on the client's newer systems. One system I managed for many years had electronic data beginning in 1986 in assorted databases and structures.
