Designing good software really isn't as complicated as people pretend it is—just understand the need you are addressing, communicate clearly and remember that "users" are human beings. Where I help is in clarifying your vision, being an advocate for the user, and utilizing the necessary tools to make your product idea a reality.
I am looking to work with clients who are thoughtful, efficient and understand the business value of high-quality contract work.
Other things to note:
• I primarily work in Figma, and am partial to Apple's product ecosystem, but am totally open to web projects and other devices. If it's got a screen, I'll make an interface that fits it.
• I'm based in New Zealand, which is undeniably one of the worst time-zones to manage. That just means I've become an expert at asynchronous work, and don't mind late nights.
• If you see me referred to as Hutch, it's a nickname, not some other bloke. I am a solo designer, and I complete all my work personally. Voice & Tone is a customer support consultancy I run separate to my software design trade.
Alright that's it, I don't like talking about myself. Check out the client reviews in my Work History to get it straight from the source.
Cheers

Hello, I'm Kris 👋🏼
I design thoughtful, cohesive marketing materials for businesses that need their brand to look polished and consistent.
I bring more than 10 years of experience across product, marketing, customer experience, and business ownership. I approach design with both the visual outcome and the business purpose in mind. I think about what the piece needs to communicate, who it is for, and how to make the information clear without making the design feel cluttered.
I work well with clients who need someone practical, creative, and detail-focused. You can come to me with a rough idea, messy content, an old document that needs a proper redesign, or a brand that needs to feel more consistent across its materials. I can help turn it into something clear, polished, and ready to use.
I can help with:
🌱 Brochure design
🌱 Capability statements
🌱 Pitch decks
🌱 Sales presentations
🌱 Canva templates
🌱 Social media graphics
🌱 E-books and guides
🌱 Lead magnets
🌱 Infographics
🌱 Flyers and posters
🌱 Annual reports
🌱 Branded business documents
🌱 Ad creative
🌱 Mockups
🌱 Copy layout and copywriting
I work across Affinity, Canva, Figma, and InDesign, I can create polished design files or editable templates depending on what you need.
A quick note on file types: I do not usually design professional layout work in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint. They are not always reliable for polished brand materials. For editable designs, I recommend Canva, Figma, or InDesign so the final result stays consistent and easy to manage.
If you need thoughtful, well-structured design that feels true to your brand, I’d be happy to help.

Users don't read manuals. If they have to think too hard about what to do next, they leave. That's a UX design problem and most products have it without even knowing. I'm Goodnews, a UI/UX designer and Framer developer with 6 years of experience designing mobile apps and websites that feel easy, clear, and built around how real people actually use things.
✅ Mobile app UX design for iOS and Android with a focus on usability
✅ Framer development for interactive, no-code websites
✅ 50% conversion increase from an eCommerce UX and UI design overhaul
✅ UX strategy first flows and structure before any visual design
✅ Google UX Design certified with 6 years of hands-on product work
✅ Responsive web design that feels natural on every device
✅ Certifications
- Google UX Design
- Product Design / UX Research Training
- Framer Website Development

Where most mobile apps and websites fall short
A product looks clean in the mockup. Then it launches and users don't convert, don't stick around, and don't come back. The design isn't the problem the UX design is. Navigation is buried, the
Onboarding is too long, and the path from landing to action has too many steps in between.
This is the most common thing I see in mobile app design and web design projects. The visuals are fine. The UX design structure is where things break down. And because nobody mapped the user flow before the UI design started, fixing it later means redoing work that should have been right from the beginning.
I start every project with UX strategy and user flow mapping. That means understanding how your users think, where they expect to go, and what they need to see at each step before making a decision. Then I build wireframes in Figma, validate the flow, and move into UI design only once the structure makes sense. For Framer projects, I take the same approach UX design and UI design first, then Framer development.
An eCommerce redesign I worked on improved conversions by 50% just by fixing the UX design flow and simplifying the UI design. No new features. Just a clearer path from landing to checkout.
What I work on
Mobile app design for iOS and Android is a large part of what I do. That means UX design that accounts for how people actually use their phones fast decisions, limited attention, and high expectations. I handle everything from user flow mapping and Figma wireframing to UI design and prototype testing before development starts.
For web design, I build responsive layouts that work cleanly across all screen sizes, and I use Framer for interactive no-code websites that look and feel like custom builds. UX design and UI design come first on every web project, regardless of whether the final output is a Framer site or a Figma handoff.
My services include:
✅ Mobile app design for iOS and Android
✅ UX design and user flow mapping
✅ Wireframing and Figma prototyping
✅ UI design with clean, modern layouts
✅ Responsive web design for all screen sizes
✅ Framer website development and advanced prototyping
✅ Landing page design and eCommerce UX design
✅ Design system creation and component setup
✅ Usability testing and UX audit
✅ UX strategy for startups and growing products
My process
UX strategy and user flow mapping come first always. That means understanding the product, the users, and the goal before anything gets designed. Then wireframes in Figma. Then UI design. Then Framer development or Figma prototype handoff to developers.
The goal is simple: by the time anything goes to development, it has already been tested, validated, and approved. No surprises, no last minute redesigns, and no features that users can't find.
If your mobile app or website isn't performing the way it should, send a message. A short conversation about your product, your users, and where things are breaking down is usually enough to point us in the right direction whether that's a UX audit or a full redesign.
