I am a professor of Statistics focusing on academic works and clinical data, with strong experience in survival analysis, regression modeling, and retrospective studies. I work on projects that require both methodological rigor and clear communication of results, including publication-ready outputs. I have worked across multiple domains, from biomedical and genomics data to applied and entrepreneurial problems, and I frequently act as a consultant and advisor, helping clients refine research questions and choose appropriate statistical methods for their goals. I am particularly proud of translating real-world problems into statistical models and explaining the results clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Clear communication is a must-have. I am available outside my standard working hours (GMT-3) and on weekends.

I am a statistician, reproducible research enthusiast, R and git developer and active user. I like statistical modelling in general, package and dashboards development, text mining and APIs. I am specially interested in Bayesian inference, multivariate analysis, feature extraction and probabilistic graphical models. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD at the Hamilton Institute in Maynooth, Ireland. I am part of Andrew Parnell’s research group, and our work is mostly related to the development of new Bayesian methods for machine learning and its many possible applications.

I´m an industrial chemist with experience in downstream processes, wastewater treatment, data visualization, and scientific writing. I have over ten years of experience in both academia and as a consultant. During those years, I have learned quite a few programming languages during my Master's and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (primarily data crawling and data analysis). I am the author of a published R package (both on CRAN and in a peer-reviewed journal), widely used for data analysis of aqueous two-phase systems (LLSR package). Here on UpWork, I can help you collect, interpret and present your data using one of several available tools on R or Python. I am more than used to working remotely and as a freelance for clients all around the globe. We can set up voice or video calls and using, instant messaging and emails to improve our communication and achieve outstanding performance for your project. I graduated in economics in 2016. Next year I began studying for my master's degree application exam. My objective was to learn statistics and finance. So I was accepted and started my master's degree in 2018. Unfortunately, the institution I picked did not have a focus on statistics and finance. During my last semester, my frustration and problems with my advisor left me somewhat unmotived to finish my dissertation. So I went my master's degree. Since my graduation days, I have studied coding. I always thought that having the ability to gather, process, and analyze large amounts of data would be valuable in today's world. My first coding experience was with MATLAB and C/C#. MATLAB, my brother used to work with it, and I used to fiddle around to learn how to code ( did nothing special ). C/C#, I did a two-week tutorial I found online. Although I never used these two program languages later, they helped teach me some concepts in programming. While in my graduation, I started using the program languages R and Python. R I used due to its extensive statistical packages support, and the second to its more general usability. During My master's degree, I found myself doing some paid R coding. Usually, it was simple data inference, like running some simple code to find the best linear regression model with variable permutation. Furthermore, I did have some coding experience with Python in helping some research groups in reading SQL databases and scraping online data. After I exited my master's degree, early 2020, I did freelance coding data analysis ( ex.: Inflation prediction models ), machine learning ( ex.: House prediction models in Rio de Janeiro ), and data scraping. I have a Github page with examples github.com/marcoaurelioguerrap ( Although still in Portuguese, my native language. ). If you need statistical models for prediction, inference, or data to be scraped, or organized I might be helpful. Other knowledge I have are Risk Management ( VaR, ES calculations ), stock and options market backtesting, options price models ( BS, Monte Carlo, and SABR ), test for forecast Bias, regressions ( OLS, Logit, probit, Tobit, panel data, time series, GMM, ARIMA, GARCH ). less

I have more than 15 years of experience conducting analyses in R, SPSS, Excel, QGIS, and LibreOffice. I am experienced with R programming, descriptive statistics, T-tests, nonparametric statistics (Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon signed rank tests), hypothesis testing using bootstrap and permutations, correlation coefficients, Chi-squared test, regressions (linear, multiple, logistic), ANOVA, principal components analysis, factor analysis, discriminant analysis, classification trees, interpolation, time series, and Shiny web applications. I can also create dashboards (R Shiny, Tableau) and a wide range of figures for data visualization (e.g., maps, box plots, bar charts, heatmaps, histograms, biplots, cloud plots, bubble plots, circle plots, counter plots, plots over maps, summary plots, line plots, etc.), depending on the requirements. I am comfortable working in Windows and Ubuntu Linux environments. My interests and previous experience include data analysis for ecology research, biodiversity, environmental pollution, physiology, genetics, analytical chemistry, and experimental design. I have a bachelor’s degree in biology, an MSc in biological sciences, and a PhD in oceanography. Currently, I work in data analysis and statistics, and as data scientist, I enjoy solving complex and interesting tasks. Please feel free to contact me. Thank you.
