I primarily use Photoshop to make shape-based dramatic illustrations
$20.00/hr
My name is Matthew Bohling and I was born and raised in North Carolina and earned my BFA degree from East Carolina University in December, 2021. In the midst of my college experience, I began to develop an extremely different personal voice; I found myself in a spot where I felt I had so much to express, but my artwork seemed so rigid and closed off - boringly so. What was once uniform and semi-realistic would soon become crooked and stylized. I wanted to tell stories in the way that characters posed and in the way the light hit their faces. I wanted my environments to be lived-in and full of depth.
The work I produce is most often meant to portray drama. I do this through lighting, proportions, and subject matter. The subject matter I focus on usually relates to fantasy or horror. I often use people, mythical creatures, and cryptids to create my pieces. I also reference books for my book illustrations. The medium I prefer to work with is digital.
