Japanese - English Translator & Writer/Editor/Proofreader

A native English speaker, I've studied Japanese for 18 years with a Bachelor's Degree in Japanese Language and Culture. I am N1 certified on the JLPT. 初めまして。クリスティンと申します。クリスティンと呼んでください!母国語は英語です。18年間以上、(高校から)日本語を勉強しました。合計で約5年間日本に住んでいました。その後、5年以上の日本語の翻訳経験はあります。大分毎年日本に訪れます!~ 全部の都道府県に行ってみたいです。 漢字のやり方はずっと知りたかったですので日本語の授業を受けました。クリエタブな翻訳は大好きです。よろしくお願いいたします。 I lived in Japan as a university student and ESL teacher for 5 years. I traveled up and down the country during my time there to further my cultural and language knowledge. I gathered precious translation experience both professionally and on a volunteer basis. I also spent a lot of time editing and proofreading for non-native speakers, both academically and on a personal level. My specialties: educational content, websites, software/game localization, mobile applications, travel, food, creative works, personal, intercultural communication, and manga/comics. Education/Teaching/ESL Experience Writing/Proofreading: Japan (4 years) Germany (1 year) ○Kindergarten to University - I was the cultural ambassador of English-speaking education and thus was in charge of facilitating activities that encouraged communication skills followed by writing/grammar. Other duties included Speech contest coaching, rewriting, and club activities. ○Business English to adults where they were taught how to discuss/debate and create materials for their business in a professional work capacity in English. South Korea (3 years) I taught the American English writing process to students in South Korea enrolled at an institution emphasizing essay writing, book reports, creative writing, persuasive writing, debate essays, etc. This included teaching reading comprehension and critical thinking from a huge library of novels and non-fiction sources. Students were taught how to accurately research, summarize, form opinions, and support their thinking with accurate information. - Students at this institution were expected to go to the SKY universities, the IVY league schools of Korea- Since I have split my life living between Asia, Europe, and North America, this gives me a unique insight to whatever content I am translating or editing. I have been trained to consider English from both a native and non-native speaker's perspective. I guarantee accurate translation/localization or editing/proofreading with a professional attitude and deadline commitment. Feel free to contact me! **Most of my editing/translation work is personal or not available. If you have any questions, please let me know.**

"Kristin did an incredible job at translating my father's cookbook from Japanese to English. There was a lot of food terminology and she translated it perfectly. What I liked about her work is that not only she was professional, but her work was very organized, clear and precise. There may be another book in the works, so I will be hiring her again without any hesitation."

"Kristin went above and beyond in translating this light novel, staying true to source material and even researching the localized video game terminology for use in the book. Highly satisfied with her work and would certainly hire her for other translation work in the future."
