I hold a BFA in Cinematography from Columbia College Chicago and work both independently and through Big Monster Studio LLC, the Chicago-based production company I co-own. I’m comfortable receiving interviews, B-roll, photographs, music, scripts, client notes, and large amounts of raw footage and finding the strongest story within the material. My approach to editing is driven by story, emotion, rhythm, and audience. I don’t simply assemble clips—I look for the moments that communicate something, build structure around them, and use pacing, music, sound, graphics, and imagery to support the story. CINEMATOGRAPHY & PRODUCTION My foundation is cinematography, so I approach production through lighting, composition, movement, lensing, color, and visual storytelling. I have my own Sony FX30 4K cinema production setup and can scale productions through Big Monster Studio with additional crew, camera, lighting, grip, and audio resources when needed. I’m based in Chicago and available to travel throughout the U.S. For out-of-state productions, I can also coordinate equipment through professional rental houses when that is more efficient for the project. COLOR GRADING Color grading is an important part of my work and one of the reasons I work in DaVinci Resolve. I work with Log footage, color-managed workflows, shot matching, skin-tone refinement, secondary corrections, tracking, look development, and final mastering. Because I also work behind the camera, I understand the relationship between lighting and exposure on set and what ultimately happens in the grade. My goal isn’t simply to apply a LUT—it’s to create a cohesive visual language appropriate for the story, subject, and brand. HOW I WORK I can work from an established creative direction or become involved earlier to help develop the visual approach, references, structure, and workflow. My visual inspiration comes from cinema, photography, painting, museums, music, architecture, and my everyday surroundings. ShotDeck is often a starting point when I’m developing cinematography and color references, but I use references as inspiration rather than something to simply reproduce.
