There is no such thing in nature as “an animation.” There isn’t even such a basic thing as “a pen.” We all know what’s “a pen,” but a $1 Bic pen and the Fulgor Nocturnus by Tibaldi, solid at auction for $8,000,000, are different in every way. They both “write”, but one is a disposable consumable and the other is a work of art, status, history, meaning, and craftsmanship.
It's the same with anything, including animation. I have produced nearly 1,500 separate, distinct animations for businesses as large as Meta (Facebook). I have worked on hundreds upon hundreds of different technologies, developing how to tell their stories, present the products and understand the audiences correctly in the first place.
An animation technician with 50 animations under his belt without any of this experience is incomparable.
He is also “an animator” – but at the same time, our skills, capabilities, and your ultimate results will be completely different.

In the thousands, but beyond that – it depends on countless unknown variables.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲?
Producing custom animation for you will take work from both parties: from the animator, and from you. At the barest minimum, you will have to explain what you need, provide relevant information, and approve drafts and the final work. How long will that take you to do is an unknown. The second part is how long it will take the animator to do the work in between those events. It’s fair to estimate 2-6 weeks for most projects.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱? 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲? 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?
This goes back to “there is no such thing as a pen.” You can hire a real professional, or you can hire an honest technician, or you can hire a fake-it-till-you-make-it showoff. This is the order of quality of results, and the descending order of autonomy. The professional can do the work better than you. The honest technician will need you to direct most things. The showoff will be a circus at your expense.

This is a difference in approach, not just in skill.
The math doesn’t lie. If you are paying, say, $600 for unlimited revisions, and some guy spends five weeks full time doing all of that activity, that’s $600/200 hours, and that’s not counting overhead. That is literally the kind of guy who is doing your work. Don't expect much.
