We are building an early-stage real estate data platform that collects, cleans, enriches, and serves public-record and legal-notice data for real estate investors and professionals. This is not a greenfield build. We already have an existing backend repo with API routes, database models, migrations, scraping workers, tests, Docker configuration, and cloud deployment pieces. We need a strong backend engineer who can step into the existing system, understand what is working, identify what is risky, and help us get the backend stable enough for launch. The right person is practical, scrappy, and comfortable working in a startup environment where the goal is not perfection. The goal is to find the highest-leverage path to a reliable product. The platform involves: -Public-record and legal-notice data -Property data enrichment -API endpoints used by a frontend application -Data quality, reliability, and launch-readiness Current Backend Stack The backend is built primarily in Python and includes: -FastAPI -SQLAlchemy and Alembic -Postgres / Google Cloud SQL -MongoDB helper/caching layer -Scraping and ETL pipeline for public-record and legal-notice data -Playwright/Patchright-based scraping -reCAPTCHA-aware scraping workflows -LLM-based data extraction / AI-assisted parsing of unstructured notice data -Pydantic models -Google Cloud integrations: Cloud Run, Cloud Scheduler, Pub/Sub, Secret Manager, Cloud Storage, Artifact Registry -Docker -Pulumi infrastructure-as-code -GitHub Actions CI/CD -pytest, Ruff, uv You do not need to be world-class in every tool listed above, but you should be strong enough in Python backend systems, scraping/data pipelines, and cloud deployment to quickly understand the architecture and make sound technical decisions. What We Need Help With We need someone who can: -Review and understand the current backend architecture -Stabilize and improve the scraping / ETL pipeline for public-record and legal-notice data -Make sure public-record and legal-notice data is collected, parsed, stored, and served correctly -Improve backend APIs used by the frontend -Improve data quality checks for incomplete, missing, or inconsistent property records -Build and maintain property enrichment workflows using external data sources -Help design database models for richer property history and event tracking -Improve LLM-assisted parsing of unstructured legal notice data where appropriate -Debug deployment, CI/CD, Cloud Run, and infrastructure issues -Improve logging, error handling, monitoring, and observability -Strengthen test coverage where it matters -Help document the backend so future developers can contribute -Coordinate with our frontend developer to support product launch -Help prioritize backend work based on launch impact, data reliability, and technical risk Who This Is For You are likely a strong fit if you: -Like working inside existing codebases -Can diagnose messy systems without needing everything rewritten -Think in practical tradeoffs, not just ideal architecture -Are comfortable with incomplete documentation -Have experience with scraping/ETL workflows and unstructured data extraction -Can explain technical risks clearly to a non-technical founder -Prefer shipping useful improvements over debating perfect abstractions -Are willing to own outcomes, not just complete assigned tickets Who This Is Not For This is probably not the right fit if you: -Only want clean, fully documented codebases -Prefer to rebuild from scratch by default -Need enterprise-level process before making progress -Are an agency sending rotating developers -Only want tightly defined tickets with no ambiguity -Are uncomfortable with scraping, data quality, or production debugging Hiring Process We want to keep the hiring process practical and focused on real work. 1. Initial Screening We will review your proposal, background, and screening question responses. 2. Real-World Technical Scenario Strong candidates may be asked to respond to a specific backend issue from our current roadmap. We are looking for how you think, what tradeoffs you notice, and how clearly you communicate. 3. Paid Finalist Review A small number of finalists may be invited to complete a paid review of the existing backend codebase before any larger implementation work begins. Budget / Working Style We are an early-stage company and are looking for a practical, startup-minded developer. This is a paid contract role, but we are not looking for enterprise-agency rates. We value clear communication, efficient execution, and someone who can help us prioritize the highest-leverage backend work first. The first paid technical review may be structured as a fixed-price milestone. Continued implementation work may be hourly or milestone-based depending on fit. Long-Term Opportunity Our goal is to find someone who can become a long-term backend partner for the product, not just complete isolated tickets. For the right person, there may be an opportunity to grow into a technical lead / backend ownership role with additional upside tied to company performance. We are looking for someone who wants to help take a real product to market, but the initial engagement will be paid, scoped clearly, and focused on proving mutual fit.

ePanicButton is an 18-year-old B2B SaaS real-time alert platform (Windows desktop client, React Native mobile app, admin portal, REST API), mid-way through a major modernization: portal rebuild, production server migration, and a shift toward AI-assisted development. We're a small, bootstrapped business — no VC funding, no big budget, and no room for enterprise-scale overhead. We need a senior engineer with real entrepreneurial experience — someone who's built or run their own thing and knows how to bring enterprise-grade discipline to a lean operation without over-engineering it. This is primarily a hands-off oversight role: the founder handles day-to-day setup and coding using AI tools (Claude, Claude Code), and you review the work, verify the high-risk items yourself, and weigh in on major architecture decisions. When something gets stuck — a deployment issue, a security question, an architecture call that matters — you're able to step in directly and get hands-on to unblock it. You'd effectively be the technical boss: the founder builds day-to-day, and you set standards, review and verify the work, and own final say on the platform's operational integrity — all in a way that fits a small company's budget and pace. ## Priorities, In Order **1. Secure and stabilize the program.** Get infrastructure, credentials, certificates, source control, and deployment process under real, enterprise-grade management so the platform runs effectively and reliably — no more surprises. **2. Establish AI-driven development and program management.** Build the process, guardrails, and review discipline for a workflow where the founder handles the actual AI-assisted coding, and you own the architecture decisions, code review, and release management around it. **3. Bittensor integration.** Help guide and oversee the buildout of our REST API messaging layer to serve the Bittensor decentralized AI mining/subnet community as a new channel-partner market. ## Core Responsibilities - Review infrastructure architecture, server management, backup, and disaster recovery decisions; personally verify high-risk items (credentials, DNS, prod access) rather than just reviewing notes about them - Oversee consolidation and hardening of credentials/secrets management; confirm it's actually done right, not just described as done - Confirm certificate lifecycle management is properly set up and tracked (SSL/TLS, renewals) - Set standards for GitHub structure, access control, branch strategy, and release process; step in directly if something gets stuck - Review and approve AI-generated code and architecture before it hits production; weigh in directly on major architecture decisions - Be available to get hands-on and unblock things — a stuck deployment, a security question, an architecture call that matters — even though day-to-day execution isn't the default expectation - Mentor the founder as a working AI-assisted developer; coordinate outside contractors toward one architecture - Weigh in on strategy for the Bittensor/API-partner buildout once the foundation is secure ## What We're Looking For - Senior engineer (CTO, VP Eng, Head of Infrastructure, or equivalent) with real production ownership at scale - Entrepreneurial background — has run or built something of their own, not just managed inside someone else's org - Comfortable working with a small, bootstrapped company's budget and pace — pragmatic about scope, not looking to build enterprise overhead we can't afford - Primarily comfortable in a review/oversight capacity, but able and willing to get hands-on directly when something is stuck or a decision is high-stakes enough to warrant it - Comfortable with server/cloud infrastructure, DNS, certificates, and secrets management discipline - .NET/SQL Server background (our stack); ASP.NET Core, SignalR, Azure/Windows Server a plus - Real current experience working alongside AI coding tools — comfortable reviewing and directing AI-assisted dev, not just aware of it - Strong communicator who can explain technical risk clearly to a non-developer founder **Nice to have:** B2B SaaS / white-label / multi-tenant experience, real-time notification systems, familiarity with Bittensor or decentralized AI/Web3 ecosystems, prior fractional CTO experience with founder-led companies. ## How We Work This is a genuine partnership for our next stage of growth, not a one-off audit — we're securing the platform's foundation, then building out the AI-driven development process, then expanding into the Bittensor/API-partner market. Expect close communication, real decision-making authority, and someone who wants to grow into this alongside us.

Given everything you've described, I wouldn't just hire another "web developer." I'd hire a **Senior Full-Stack Engineer** with experience taking over existing projects. That's a completely different skillset. Here's an Upwork posting I'd use: --- # Senior Full-Stack Developer (Next.js + Django + Stripe) – Take Over Existing Project We are looking for a **highly experienced senior full-stack developer** to take over an existing web application that was started by another developer. This is **not** a project for someone who needs hand-holding or is learning these technologies. We need someone who can quickly understand an existing codebase, identify what's complete, what's broken, what's missing, and efficiently finish the product. ## Tech Stack Must have professional experience with: * Next.js * React * TypeScript * Django * Django REST Framework * PostgreSQL * AWS * Stripe (REQUIRED) * Git/GitHub ## Stripe Experience (Required) You **must** have significant experience implementing Stripe, including: * Hosted Checkout * Payment Elements * Webhooks * Subscription billing * Customer portal * Refunds * Payment state management * Stripe Dashboard * Production deployments If Stripe is not something you've implemented multiple times, this is not the right project. ## Project The application is an online travel service with: * Multi-step customer application * Customer dashboard * Admin dashboard * User authentication * Payment processing * Email workflows * PDF generation * AWS deployment A previous developer has completed part of the project, but we need someone who can independently evaluate the codebase and finish the application correctly. ## Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include: * Review the existing codebase * Audit completed work against the original project scope * Identify missing functionality * Fix existing issues * Complete unfinished features * Improve code quality where necessary * Deploy production-ready code * Work directly with us during testing and revisions ## Important Our previous developer required a significant amount of frontend guidance and revisions. As a result, our team ended up recreating many HTML pages and UI components ourselves. We're looking for someone who can: * Take ownership * Ask questions before building when requirements are unclear * Build polished, modern interfaces without constant direction * Deliver production-quality work the first time Communication is extremely important. We'd much rather answer questions upfront than spend time rebuilding work later. ## To Apply Please include: 1. Links to **3 projects** you've personally built using Next.js and Django. 2. Describe your experience with **Stripe**, including subscriptions, webhooks, and payment flows. 3. Have you ever taken over another developer's unfinished project? Tell us about it. 4. How would you approach auditing an unfamiliar codebase before writing new code? 5. Your GitHub (if available). 6. Your hourly rate. 7. Your availability. ## Bonus Experience * AWS deployment * Sentry * Docker * CI/CD * PDF generation * Email automation * Travel platforms * Headless browser automation * Playwright

We are a husband-and-wife orthodontic practice (Ascend Orthodontics) based in Colorado, looking for an experienced AWS DevOps engineer to deploy our existing website and establish a fully HIPAA-compliant cloud infrastructure. The codebase is currently maintained across a local machine and a GitHub repository. The site has been built using Claude Code and is ready for deployment. We are not looking for any front-end development work — although oversite on current code would be appreciated. We need someone to take it across the finish line and set it up correctly on AWS. What we need: -Pull the existing codebase from GitHub and deploy it to AWS (EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, or equivalent — open to your recommendation based on our stack) -Configure a secure, production-ready environment including SSL/TLS certificates and custom domain setup -Set up HIPAA-compliant infrastructure including IAM roles and least-privilege access controls, encryption at rest and in transit, VPC network isolation, CloudTrail audit logging, and S3 bucket security policies -Ensure AWS services used are covered under a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) — we will execute the BAA with AWS directly, but the developer must be familiar with which services qualify -Configure basic monitoring and alerting via AWS CloudWatch -Deliver clean documentation of the architecture so we can maintain and hand off as needed What we're looking for in a candidate: -AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) strongly preferred -Demonstrated experience deploying HIPAA-compliant infrastructure — please describe a specific healthcare project in your proposal -Comfortable working from an existing GitHub repo with minimal handholding -Strong communication and ability to explain compliance decisions in plain language -U.S.-based or U.S. time zone preferred given the compliance sensitivity Project type: Fixed scope, one-time engagement with potential for ongoing support To apply: Please briefly describe a HIPAA or healthcare-related AWS project you've completed, the services you used, and your approach to compliance documentation.

FLSA Classification: Contractor/1099, Part-time Reports to: Application Content Engineer and Illustration Lead Location: Remote (U.S.) — work from home, flexible schedule Work hours: Average 15-30 hours per week (not guaranteed) StartGuides is a rapidly growing company with a dynamic team and an exciting product. We have ambitious goals and know that our people enable us to provide great products and accelerate our growth. Our innovative apps make a big difference for our country by helping military personnel and others understand how to set up, operate, and troubleshoot their equipment. We are committed to providing a meaningful, secure, and enjoyable career for every person at the company. We are currently at 50+ employees spread across 19 states. The Role We’re hiring contract Technical Illustrators to produce precise, brand-consistent vector illustrations of real-world equipment from reference photography. Working from StartGuides’ Illustrator templates and style guidelines, and alongside our App Content Engineers and design team, you’ll turn complex, often imperfect source photos into clean, clear technical art that blends seamlessly with our existing illustration library. This is steady, deliverable and deadline-driven work, not occasional “hero” pieces. The illustrators who thrive at StartGuides combine genuine drawing craft with mechanical intuition and the discipline to maintain high-quality standards across recurring deliverables. What You’ll Do • Create complex, accurate vector technical illustrations in Adobe Illustrator from reference photographs and supporting visual material. • Interpret real equipment, including parts that are partially obscured, foreshortened, or mechanically intricate, and reconstruct geometry that is correct and easy to read. • Apply StartGuides color, line-weight, and style standards so your work blends seamlessly with the existing illustration library. • Maintain consistent quality and throughput against defined deadlines as part of a project team. • Take direction and feedback from App Content Engineers and design leads, while bringing your own problem-solving to the table. What We’re Looking For • Vector technical or product illustration experience. 3+ years producing technical, product, scientific, or medical-style vector illustration in Adobe Illustrator — not general marketing, layout, or logo work. We weight the body of work over the year count: if your portfolio shows the kind of work described above, we encourage you to apply even if your timeline is shorter. • A portfolio that proves it. Please submit a portfolio link or 3–5 work samples that include, at minimum: complex multi-part objects drawn from reference photographs; deliberate, consistent line-weight and stroke hierarchy; and work executed to an external style guide or brand standard. Cutaways, exploded views, or assembly illustrations are a strong plus. • Mechanical comprehension. Demonstrated ability to look at real, complex equipment and understand how it’s built and how the parts relate — then translate that into accurate art. Our subject matter is military equipment; you’ll routinely be required to figure out and draw complex structures from imperfect references. • Comfort at production volume. You can sustain consistent quality across a steady, recurring workload and reliably meet deadlines. • Standards discipline. You follow templates, color systems, and style guidelines closely, so your work is indistinguishable from the team’s. • Tools & collaboration. You can work on a StartGuides-provided Windows-based PC, have familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, are comfortable reading/navigating Microsoft PowerPoint files, and are willing to collaborate with our team through Microsoft Teams. • Working style. You are detail-oriented, confident presenting your ideas, responsive to feedback, and able to manage your own time against deadlines. Our Hiring Process We respect your time and we want to see how you actually work. Shortlisted candidates are asked to complete two short, structured skills assessments: • A live working session where you walk us through how you build an illustration in Illustrator — so we can see your process, speed, and command of the software firsthand • A paid take-home assignment that mirrors a real StartGuides task on a realistic timeline, so we can evaluate finished craft and accuracy. Note that you will need to be working in the most up-to-date version of Illustrator for compatibility with the assessment files you will be provided. Assessments may be completed on a PC or Mac. Work Authorization & Eligibility Must be able to legally work in the United States and must hold a U.S. Citizenship. Verification will be required to process I-9. Must pass company-sponsored commercial background check and meet eligibility criteria to support U.S. Federal Government contracts. Security clearance beneficial but not required. Equal Opportunity StartGuides is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, age, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability protected veteran status, or other legally protected status. How to Apply Submit your resume, a brief cover letter, and a portfolio link or technical vector illustration work with your application. Applications without illustration samples or a portfolio link will not be considered.
