I'm a first-time author with a completed military thriller (~38,000 words — reads in about 3 hours) looking for a former Naval Special Warfare operator to give it a technical accuracy pass before publication. The premise: A CIA cryptographer is attached to a SEAL element for a maritime operation against a target in Pakistan (2008). Roughly half the book covers his compressed training at Coronado; the back half is the op — submarine lockout, combat swim, surf-zone breach, cliff ascent, and the assault. What kind of book this is: Fast and lean, written for guys who don't normally read — a slow reader could easily bang this book out on a few hour flight. I'm deliberately NOT trying to be Tom Clancy. Light on technical detail by design; the story runs on pace and characters. So I don't need depth added. I need to know that what IS on the page is right, and that nothing in it would make a military guy roll his eyes and put it down. What I'm NOT asking for: deep editing or line edits. The book has been through beta readers and revision . What I am asking for: Read the manuscript (PDF) Flag anything technically wrong: gear, procedures, terminology, water work, weapons handling Flag anything culturally wrong: how the operators talk, how a Master Chief runs his team, team-room dynamics, how they'd treat an attached civilian Answer 4–5 specific questions I'll send (e.g., "What's the one thing in here that would make a Team guy put the book down?") One thing to know going in: I know the premise is ridiculous that a civilian could end up on a mission with an elite SEAL team. The story takes a deliberate fictional license — the compressed training timeline is the story's engine, and I know it's not realistic. I'm not looking for validation and I won't defend the book. If something's wrong, I want to know. Verification: I'll ask for reasonable confirmation of NSW background before we start

What I need A full line edit and copyedit of the manuscript, checking grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency (timeline, names, formatting) Preservation of first-person voice throughout, with no rewording for style unless something is a genuine error A tracked-changes version I can review and accept or reject line by line, plus a brief editorial note at the end flagging any recurring issues No use of em dashes anywhere in suggested edits Familiarity with or willingness to follow a locked style sheet I will provide (banned words and phrases, formatting rules) TOXIC — Style Sheet for Editors Manuscript by Serena Amari (pen name) | Memoir, approx. 19,000 words, 31 chapters Voice and Point of View ● First person throughout. Do not shift to second or third person for the author's own experience, even in passages that feel reflective or distanced. ● Voice is plain, observational, and restrained. Avoid suggesting edits that add literary flourish or emotional intensifying language. ● Tone is graceful, not accusatory. The author is not attacking her daughter in the text; do not flag this as a gap or suggest "balancing" language. Hard Rules — No Exceptions ● No em dashes anywhere. Use commas, semicolons, periods, or restructured sentences instead. ● No meta-commentary about the manuscript itself (no lines like "this is why I am writing this book" or similar self-referential framing). ● No invented details, quotes, or facts. Flag anything that reads as unverifiable rather than adding to it. Banned Words and Phrases ● AI-pattern vocabulary: delve, tapestry, nuanced, resonate, navigate, underscores, highlights, robust, framework, speaks to, and similar. ● Filler phrases: "Let me say this plainly," "I want to sit with that," "the way X always does," "and I will not pretend otherwise," "That is worth saying plainly," or close variants of any of these. ● "Door" metaphors (e.g., closing doors, open doors) and "sickness" language used metaphorically for the estrangement. ● Formulaic sign-offs or summary sentences that wrap up a chapter with a tidy moral. Names and Privacy ● No real names for any family members appear in the text. Family members are referred to by their relationship to the author (daughter, husband, mother, etc.). Preserve this; do not suggest adding names for clarity. ● The author writes under the pen name Serena Amari. This is intentional and should not be flagged. Scope of This Edit ● This is a line and copyedit, not a developmental edit. Structure, chapter order, and content are locked. ● Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency (timeline, formatting, recurring details) are in scope. ● Rewording for style is out of scope unless something is a clear grammatical or mechanical error. Questions about any of the above should go to the author before changes are made. Thank you in advance!

I'm running a high-volume, AI-driven lead generation program — primarily Meta ads with supporting email campaigns — with a target of 20,000 qualified leads. The technical build, automation, and campaign execution are already handled on my end. What I need is a seasoned creative professional to act as the quality-control and taste layer over the creative output. This is a review-and-direct role, not a production role. I'll send you batches of ad creative (visuals + copy) and email assets, and you'll mark them up: what's working, what's off, what to cut, and specific, actionable direction to make each piece sharper and more likely to convert. I action your feedback. Occasionally I'll want a short strategy call to pressure-test creative direction or messaging. The ideal person is genuinely cross-disciplinary — a strong eye for visual design, strong instincts for written/ad copy, and real strategic judgment about positioning and what makes performance creative convert. You've directed or reviewed paid social creative at volume and can give crisp, prioritized feedback fast. What I'm looking for: - Proven experience across design, copywriting, and creative/brand strategy - A track record reviewing or directing Meta/paid social ad creative (volume a plus) - Email campaign creative experience - Ability to give clear, written, prioritized markup on creative batches - Sharp judgment on conversion-focused creative, not just aesthetics - Must be US-based How we'll work: - I send batches of creative; you return marked-up feedback - Occasional strategy calls - Hours are flexible and not guaranteed — this is ongoing, as-needed review work When you apply, please briefly: 1. Describe paid social (Meta) creative you've reviewed or directed, and the results. 2. Explain how you approach giving prioritized, actionable feedback on a batch of ads.
