**Project: Original 3D-printable cryptex design for commercial product** I'm launching a children's mystery product (ages 8–12). The product pairs a physical cryptex with a digital six-chapter story where kids solve clues to discover a 6-letter code that unlocks the cryptex. Inside is an onyx pendant. I need an original 3D model designed from scratch for production printing and commercial sale. **Deliverables** - Original STL files for a 6-ring cryptex, print-ready - Source CAD file (Fusion 360, Blender, or equivalent) so I can request future revisions - All files designed from scratch by you, not based on or derived from any existing 3D model, STL, or published design - Optimized print layout (see Print Efficiency below) **Functional requirements** - Cylindrical cryptex, approximately 6 inches in length (~152mm), diameter = 2.5 inches (~64mm) - 6 independently rotating rings, each displaying 26 letters (A–Z) - Rings align to a specific 6-letter code to unlock the inner chamber - Inner chamber sized to securely hold a small pendant - Smooth rotation, satisfying tactile feedback, secure lock when code is wrong - Designed for FDM printing in PLA/PETG at consumer-grade printer tolerances (0.2mm layer height) - Must print reliably without exotic supports or post-processing beyond basic cleanup **Print efficiency requirement (important)** - Target: 1–2 print plates and under 8 hours total print time per complete unit - Printer: Bambu A1 mini, build volume 180mm x 180mm x 180mm - Designer should optimize part orientation, plate layout, and geometry to minimize plate count, eliminate or minimize supports, and reduce total print time - Please specify expected plate count and total print time in your proposal **Aesthetic direction** - Finish: matte black throughout (not brass, not metallic) - Subtle ornamental detail welcome on end caps and ring edges; nothing cartoonish - I'll provide my logo for incorporation into one of the end caps Milestones & process - First draft delivered with your own print-test video showing the cryptex functioning (rings rotating, locking, opening), plus CAD source and STL files - My print test and consolidated feedback - Revisions, reprint, video confirmation, final files Please propose your timeline for each milestone in your application. **Requirements to apply** - Designer must own and operate a 3D printer - 1 example from your portfolio of a multi-part mechanical or functional design you've built - Confirmation you agree to the IP/originality terms below **Legal / IP terms (must agree before starting)** - All IP in deliverables assigned to me as work-for-hire upon final payment - You warrant the design is 100% original, created by you from scratch, and not copied from, traced from, or derived from any existing 3D model, STL file, published design, or third-party reference - You have not used any existing cryptex STL as a base, reference, or starting point - Designs are free of any third-party IP claims Looking forward to seeing your work, and please let me know if there are any questions!
