We are looking for an experienced U.S.-based CPA to become our long-term accounting and tax advisor. We already have a bookkeeper who maintains our books, so this position is focused on reviewing the financials, preparing tax returns, providing tax planning, and helping us make smart financial decisions throughout the year. This is a remote, ongoing relationship rather than a one-time tax preparation project. **Responsibilities:** * Review our bookkeeping and financial statements. * Prepare and file annual business and personal tax returns as needed. * Provide proactive tax planning throughout the year. * Recommend legal strategies to reduce taxes. * Review our financials on a quarterly basis (or recommend a better schedule). * Advise on business structure, major purchases, depreciation, retirement planning, and other tax-saving opportunities. * Be available for occasional questions throughout the year. **Current Setup:** * Remote bookkeeping is already in place. * We use QuickBooks Online * We are looking for a long-term relationship with someone who enjoys helping business owners grow. **When applying, please answer the following questions:** 1. How many years have you been practicing as a CPA? 2. Do you primarily focus on tax preparation, tax planning, or both? 3. How often do you meet with clients for proactive tax planning? 4. What accounting software do you recommend or prefer? 5. Do you review client financial statements quarterly? 6. What are some examples of tax planning strategies you commonly recommend for small business owners? 7. Do you bill hourly, monthly, or on a fixed annual fee? 8. Are you available for occasional questions throughout the year without billing for every brief phone call or email? 9. Have you represented clients before the IRS? 10. What do you believe separates you from the average CPA? 11. Why do your current clients continue working with you year after year? 12. Please provide a brief overview of your experience and include references or testimonials if available. We are looking for someone who is knowledgeable, proactive, responsive, and interested in building a long-term relationship—not someone who simply prepares tax returns once a year.
