Our company is a national after-school enrichment provider operating thousands of programs annually across the U.S. We deliver enrichment classes, structured recess, sports programs, full-service after-school care, and summer camps to schools, districts, and parents. We are venture-backed and growth-stage, with an ambitious operational agenda to match. We are working to resolve a backlog of state payroll tax issues inherited from a prior entity. The issues span roughly 20 state accounts across withholding, SUI, corporate excise, PFML, and other tax types. States include California, Colorado, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and others. Some issues involve unfiled quarters, some involve unpaid balances, and some need to be verified as legitimate before any action is taken. Total exposure is in the six figures, and we expect to reduce that meaningfully through investigation and penalty abatement. We need one skilled person to own this project end-to-end and see it through. What you will own: → Obtaining Third Party Authorization (TPA) access to each state agency → Researching each issue via portals, notices, direct agency outreach, and internal payroll files → Recommending resolution steps and confirming with our team before acting → Filing late returns, including $0 returns where applicable → Coordinating with our team for any required payments → Requesting penalty and interest waivers where applicable → Closing out prior entity tax accounts once issues are resolved → Tracking progress and keeping us updated throughout What we need from you: → Enrolled Agent credential preferred, or CPA with hands-on employment tax experience → Direct experience resolving multi-state payroll tax issues, not just ongoing compliance work → Comfortable calling state agencies, navigating online portals, and drafting abatement requests → Able to manage 15 to 20 concurrent state issues independently and stay organized across all of them → Available for periodic check-ins with our Finance and HR team for payment and resolution decisions This is a remote, hourly, project-based engagement. We expect it to run 3 to 6 months depending on agency response times. We are not looking for a full-time hire and we are not looking for a large firm. If you have resolved multi-state employment tax issues for a company in a similar situation, please describe that scope of work and your approach when you apply.
