Communications & Fundraising Specialist (DevComm) — Freelance Contractor | Remote | $50–$70/hr | Starting ~5–10 hrs/week | CST availability preferred (9a–4p) I'm looking for a nonprofit fundraising communicator — someone who is comfortable with donor stewardship, grant writing, and advocacy communications, and who brings a deep, lived fluency in progressive movement work. If your background is primarily in social media content, general marketing, or brand work with no experience in the nonprofit or social justice world, this is likely not the right fit. —— WHAT THIS ROLE IS This is a contractor position supporting my consulting practice, which serves clients working in abortion access, information democracy, freedom of the press, and cybersecurity education. The communications I produce straddle two lanes simultaneously: high-stakes fundraising and sharp advocacy storytelling. The person I'm looking for thinks in terms of donor relationships, movement strategy, and good-looking visual deliverables. —— PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES — Short-form content drafting — newsletters, op-eds, talking points, and similar deliverables that require a distinctive activist voice and genuine command of hope-based, intersectional framing; urgent calls to action and relationship-centered stewardship that move people to organize and take action, not just inform them Platforms: MailChimp, WordPress, Canva, Google Docs — Grant writing — drafting and editing 6-to-7-figure grant applications, LOIs, and funder reports with precision, fluency in program language, and a strong narrative arc. This will be an area I own in the beginning of onboarding, then share with you as you get comfortable with each nonprofit and their mission. I'm not going to throw you into the deep end here. Platforms: Google Docs, Google Sheets, grantee portals (Fluxx, etc.) — 1:1 donor communications — highly personalized stewardship and cultivation writing for major donors and individual funders (not listserv blasts); this will also include documenting and tracking donor stewardship touch points — helping plan when to reach out to whom, how often, and with what relevant updates Platform: Gmail — Funder research — identifying and profiling prospective foundation and individual donors aligned with client missions; I have a funding brief template I need help filling out for each donor/funding opportunity; knowledge of the major progressive funding landscape is strongly preferred Platforms: Instrumentl, Google Alerts, Guidestar, fundraising listservs, 990s — Light admin support — file organization, tracking deadlines and deliverables; a few hours per week at most Platforms: Google Workspace, Google Calendar, Instrumentl —— WHO YOU ARE You have genuine, demonstrable experience in the nonprofit and progressive advocacy worlds. You're familiar with how the communications department often straddles the fundraising department, and you are comfortable oscillating between the two. You bring: — Fluency in the language of intersectionality, feminist movement work, and progressive advocacy — not as buzzwords, but as a framework you actually think and communicate in. You know who Kimberlé Crenshaw is. — Hope-based communication instincts — you know how to write toward a vision, not just against a threat. — Comfort in tech-adjacent fields — cybersecurity, information democracy, the threat of AI, and digital rights have a learning curve; you're not intimidated by it, and ideally you've written in or around these spaces. — Knowledge of the major progressive funding ecosystem — you recognize the names, the priorities, and the culture of the foundations and intermediaries doing the most in this space. — A history of authentic major donor relationships — you've done the relationship work, not just the writing work. (I'm not expecting you to come with donor contacts and their emails — I just want to know you're comfortable helping a nonprofit build those ties authentically.) —— ON AI I need applicants to be upfront about the use of AI and LLMs. The work of my clients is often highly confidential, and given the nature of the fields I specialize in, I am very intentional about preventing Big Tech and AI companies from harvesting sensitive data. If you regularly use AI as a drafting or editing tool and have refined that workflow to the point where the final product is indistinguishably yours — that's not a disqualifier. We can discuss comfortable boundaries around where and when to use it. However, we cannot have work that doesn't reflect your own ability at its core. Please do not submit AI-generated writing samples or application materials. We're evaluating your instinct, your ear for activist language, and your ability to write in service of a cause — we'll be able to tell. —— WHAT TO SUBMIT Your application and samples should prove four things: 1. You know how to write persuasively. 2. You're well-versed in progressive and intersectional activism. 3. You have a fundraising background, preferably in or adjacent to the areas my clients work in. 4. You can create professional, eye-catching visual materials. If you're curious what I mean by that last one, you can see some of my work here: www.whatwesay.org/samples/ Whatever supplemental materials help prove the above are welcome. I will say — I'm a sucker for a good cover letter. Files should be submitted as PDFs. If files are large, upload to a shared drive, provide the link, and ensure permissions are open to outside viewers. —— ABOUT ME Hi! My name is Bevyn Howard. I live in Austin, and I am desperately hoping to turn Texas blue. My background is in Rhetoric and Writing — and since I didn't want to become a lawyer, I decided to use my persuasive skills to advocate for social justice missions I care deeply about. These include fighting racism, sexism, authoritarianism, and systemic power imbalances. As an undergrad, I completed my thesis on "White Feminism" and the ways white women perpetuate racism within the feminist movement. I left my previous full-time position due in part to burnout, so mental health and a flexible, sustainable working relationship matter deeply to me. I'm a WNBA fan, a distance runner, a weightlifter, and a cat parent to two Siamese who will absolutely make an appearance on video calls. Sorry in advance. Anyone who works with me is expected to have opinions, push back when they have a different idea, appreciate dry humor, and know that I value them for who they are — not just what they produce. About the Project This is a start up project for a faith-based mail subscription for children ages 5–11, delivered twice monthly as a gift subscription. We need a talented designer who can bring warmth, whimsy, and scripture-rooted design to physical mail pieces. Full disclosure; This project currently is a one man operation of whom has a full time career as a designer/prepress tech in a commercial print shop. The goal is to grow this to a full time career for myself ahead of continuing changes in the print industry and AI implementation. I have no real established budget yet. I have no experience in children's design so I'm looking for help. If still interested, read on! What You'll Be Designing Each mailing contains four distinct print pieces that must work together as a cohesive seasonal set: Main Card (5×7, double-sided) — The anchor piece. Front: a scripture verse with illustration. Back: a short devotional and an "adventure" — a simple faith-based prompt or activity for the child to engage with. Activity Card (6×4, double-sided) — A seasonal activity insert designed for hands-on fun. Includes word searches, mazes, coloring sets, drawing prompts, and similar activities — all faith-themed and age-appropriate for kids 5–11. Prayer & Verse Memory Card (4×3, double-sided) — A collectible, keep-it-forever card. Front: a guided prayer. Back: the monthly memory verse, designed to be read, repeated, and remembered. Sticker Set (4×3) — A seasonal sticker sheet (3-5 stickers) tied to the monthly theme. Fun, kid-friendly illustrations that reinforce the content and give kids something to use and enjoy. All four pieces must feel like they belong to the same world — unified by seasonal palette, illustration style, and brand voice — while each serving its own format and purpose. Additionally, a single A7 envelope will be needed as well as a welcome card (optional add on) introducing the gift to the recipient. Much of the piece design can be templated so there's consistency to each mailing. What We're Looking For Experience designing for children ages 5–11 — you understand what engages kids without being generic Faith-based design sensibility — you can work with scripture and devotional content naturally and respectfully Strong print fundamentals — bleed, resolution, CMYK, and print-ready file delivery Seasonal awareness — we rotate color palettes and themes throughout the year Ability to design within a brand system consistently across multiple pieces Bonus: experience with children's publishing, subscription boxes, or church/ministry design All text content will be provided and well in advance, as well as suggestions for imagery for illustrations and stickers. Deliverables Per Mailing 4 print-ready files (main card, activity card, prayer/verse card, sticker set) Source files in InDesign (preferred), Illustrator or Canva All files sized and prepped for our print vendor To Apply Please include: Portfolio samples — especially children's content, faith or ministry work, or multi-piece print sets A brief note on your experience with faith-based or values-driven brands Your preferred workflow for ongoing monthly work We're interested in building a long-term relationship with the right designer, not filling a one-time order. If this kind of work lights you up, we'd love to hear from you.

Looking for someone to take this Canva template and produce a few other options for this "business card." The verbiage would need to remain the same. The words that are currently bolded or 'highlighted' would need to remain the same. The placement of the words would need to remain the same. We like this design because it is simple and professional. But we want more options for fonts, colors, and designs. You do not have to keep the shape that is featured in the bottom right corner. Please note: the font you use for specifically "Agent Name" "Agent Brokerage" and "000-000-0000" will need to be a font that I'm able to acquire online. For example, Canva's proprietary fonts are generally not available for me to acquire the font file. You do not need to provide the font file. The other words on the design can be with any font you'd like. We will need a PDF or a Canva link. Feel free to design this inside or outside of Canva. The Canva template link is here: https://canva.link/vrl39jc7fz4exsi
