# Houston School Partnerships & Business Development Specialist — After-School Chess Programs Azeri Chess Academy is seeking an experienced outreach and business-development specialist to help us open new after-school chess programs in Houston, Texas for the Fall 2026 semester. **Important application rule:** Apply and communicate about this opportunity only through Upwork. Do not contact Azeri Chess Academy before hiring through our website contact form, official email address, phone number, social-media accounts, or any other channel outside Upwork. Applicants who contact us outside Upwork regarding this position will be rejected. This is a results-based role for someone who can identify suitable schools, reach the right decision-makers, communicate professionally, and help turn outreach into approved school programs with paid registrations. This is not a contact-list, data-entry, or mass-email role. We need someone who can conduct thoughtful outreach, follow up consistently, build relationships, and help secure real school partnerships. Program information: https://azerichessacademy.com/school-programs/ ## Goal The goal is to secure one or more approved after-school chess programs in the Houston area and have registrations ready by August 1, 2026, before the Fall semester begins. A successful result includes: * A school, charter school, private school, or authorized PTO/PTA partner agrees to host the program. * Parents receive approved registration information. * Paid registrations begin through Azeri Chess Academy’s website. For this project, a “lead” does not mean a contact list, unanswered email, meeting, inquiry, or person who only requests information. A qualified lead is achieved only when all of the following occur: 1. An authorized school representative or PTO/PTA representative confirms in writing that the after-school chess program may be offered. 2. Azeri Chess Academy creates and publishes the registration page. 3. At least one parent completes a paid registration through Azeri Chess Academy’s registration system. ## Responsibilities * Research suitable Houston-area public schools, charter schools, private schools, PTO/PTA organizations, and education partners. * Identify appropriate decision-makers, including principals, assistant principals, after-school coordinators, enrichment coordinators, PTO/PTA leaders, and parent activity organizers. * Before contacting a school, verify whether it already has an active chess provider or established after-school chess program. * Check school websites, enrichment pages, PTO/PTA pages, registration platforms, newsletters, and other publicly available sources before pursuing a target. * Conduct professional outreach through email, follow-ups, calls, and other appropriate communication. * Present Azeri Chess Academy and its after-school chess program clearly and professionally. * Explain the value of the program and respond to questions from interested school representatives. * Handle communication with interested schools, PTO/PTA leaders, and parents who contact us through approved channels. * Ask Azeri Chess Academy for approval before confirming pricing, schedules, curriculum, staffing, contracts, or other important program terms. * Maintain a clear spreadsheet or CRM showing contacts, outreach activity, replies, follow-ups, meetings, and next steps. * Provide regular progress reports. * Inform us immediately when a school is ready to proceed so we can set up online registration. * Support the communication process until registration is open and parent payments begin. ## Important Restrictions * Do not target schools that already have an established after-school chess provider unless Azeri Chess Academy gives written approval. * We will provide a private list of schools and districts that must not be contacted. * We will also provide a private reference list of known Houston-area chess and after-school providers to check before targeting a school. * Do not pursue opportunities requiring formal district bids, RFPs, lengthy procurement processes, or complex vendor applications. * We are not hiring someone to apply for district bids on our behalf. * Prioritize opportunities where approval can reasonably come from a school administrator, charter/private school leadership, after-school coordinator, PTO/PTA, or another authorized local decision-maker. * Do not promise pricing, schedules, staffing, curriculum, contracts, or program details without our written approval. * Do not collect tuition or payments personally. All registrations and payments must go through Azeri Chess Academy. * Do not contact parents directly unless the school or parent organization has authorized that communication. * Do not use spam, misleading claims, bulk unsolicited messaging, or unauthorized parent or student contact information. ## What We Provide * A professional website and school-program page. * Program information, curriculum details, coach background, equipment information, and registration support. * Prompt answers when Academy approval is needed. * Background checks for Academy members when required by an approved school. * Transparent reporting of registrations, payments, refunds, processing fees, and commission calculations. * A private no-contact list of schools and districts. * A private reference list of known Houston-area chess and after-school providers. ## Compensation This role includes a fixed-price milestone plus performance-based compensation. ### Initial Fixed-Price Milestone: $250 The initial $250 Upwork milestone covers target research, outreach preparation, target identification, active outreach, follow-up, and progress reporting. The milestone will be released only after the freelancer brings a qualified lead, as defined above. To request milestone release, the freelancer must provide: * A clear outreach and contact log. * Written confirmation from the school or authorized PTO/PTA representative that the program may be offered. * Documentation showing that the registration page is active and at least one parent has completed a paid registration. ### Performance-Based Compensation In addition to the $250 milestone, the freelancer will receive: **50% of net tuition collected from each after-school chess program that the freelancer originates and helps bring to paid enrollment.** “Net tuition collected” means tuition actually received by Azeri Chess Academy after payment-processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, and applicable taxes collected for remittance. Normal Academy expenses—including coaching, equipment, website expenses, advertising, administration, and other operating costs—will not be deducted from the commission calculation. Example: if a program collects $5,000 after payment-processing fees, the freelancer receives $2,500. All registrations will be handled by Azeri Chess Academy. We will provide transparent reporting of registrations, collected tuition, refunds, payment-processing fees, and commission calculations. Commission will be calculated after the registration period closes and paid through Upwork. The 50% commission applies to the Fall 2026 program. If the same program continues in future semesters, the freelancer will continue receiving the 50% commission for that school program, provided the freelancer remains actively involved in supporting and maintaining the school relationship. Any material change to this arrangement must be agreed upon in writing. ## Required Experience Please apply only if you have experience in one or more of the following: * School outreach * Education sales * After-school enrichment programs * Youth programs * School partnership development * PTO/PTA outreach * B2B lead generation * Appointment setting * Cold email or email outreach * Phone follow-up * CRM or outreach pipeline management * Houston or Texas education-market knowledge Strong written and spoken English is required. Houston-area knowledge is strongly preferred. This role may be performed remotely, but you must be able to communicate professionally with schools during Central Time business hours. ## Questions for Applicants 1. Describe your experience with school outreach, education sales, after-school programs, youth programs, or partnership development. What results did you achieve? 2. How would you identify suitable Houston-area schools, private schools, charter schools, or PTO/PTA organizations while avoiding schools with established chess providers and opportunities requiring district bidding? 3. Are you comfortable sending outreach emails, making outbound calls, and following up with principals, after-school coordinators, and PTO/PTA leaders? Please describe your approach. 4. What system do you use to track outreach, contacts, responses, follow-ups, meetings, and qualified opportunities? Please describe how you would report progress weekly. 5. Please provide a short example of an outreach email you would send to a principal, after-school coordinator, or PTO/PTA leader to introduce an after-school chess program. We are looking for someone who can create genuine school partnerships and paid enrollment opportunities—not someone who only provides general advice or a list of school contacts. Please submit your application only through Upwork. Do not contact Azeri Chess Academy directly through our website, email, phone, or social-media accounts regarding this position.
