SEO Specialist Company: Retrevia Advisory Role Type: Contract, with potential to grow About Retrevia Retrevia Advisory helps expert-led businesses, founders, and authors become more discoverable across traditional search, AI search, and emerging recommendation platforms. Our work sits at the intersection of SEO, AEO, content strategy, digital authority, and AI visibility. We help clients strengthen the technical and content foundations of their websites, build credible authority across the web, and improve how they are discovered and recommended by both people and AI systems. We are building a lean, AI-forward company and are looking for an SEO Specialist who can pair strong SEO fundamentals with curiosity about how search and discovery are evolving. The Role We are looking for an SEO Specialist to support the execution of SEO and AI-search optimization work across client websites. This is a hands-on implementation role. You will work from clearly defined client strategies and priorities, identify and resolve SEO issues, optimize existing pages and content, support new content implementation, and help ensure client websites are technically sound and structured for modern search discovery. You should be comfortable working independently, making informed recommendations, and distinguishing between high-impact SEO work and lower-priority technical cleanup. You do **not** need to be an expert in AI search or AEO today. We are looking for someone with excellent SEO fundamentals who is excited to learn and work at the forefront of how search is changing. What You’ll Do * Conduct technical and on-page SEO audits and translate findings into prioritized recommendations * Implement or coordinate SEO improvements across client websites * Optimize title tags, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking, URLs, image attributes, and page structure * Identify and resolve crawlability, indexation, canonicalization, sitemap, redirect, and other technical SEO issues * Review Google Search Console and SEO platform data to identify issues and opportunities * Conduct keyword and search-intent research to support content strategy * Optimize existing website pages and articles for target topics and search intent * Support the creation and implementation of SEO content briefs * Improve internal linking and overall site architecture * Review structured data/schema implementation and identify appropriate opportunities * Help optimize websites for entity clarity, topical authority, and AI-driven search environments * QA website changes and confirm that implementations are working correctly * Work with WordPress, Webflow, developers, designers, and other contractors when needed * Document completed work and clearly communicate outstanding issues, recommendations, and next steps * Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve research, analysis, QA, and execution efficiency What We’re Looking For * 4–5+ years of hands-on SEO experience * Strong understanding of technical SEO and on-page SEO fundamentals * Experience working directly in or alongside WordPress and Webflow along with other common website platforms * Experience with Google Search Console and Google Analytics * Experience with SEO platforms such as Semrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar tools * Strong understanding of search intent, keyword research, internal linking, and content optimization * Ability to diagnose SEO issues rather than simply follow automated audit recommendations * Ability to prioritize work based on likely business and search impact * Strong attention to detail and QA skills * Clear written communication and documentation * Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment * Comfortable using AI tools as part of your workflow Experience in any of the following is a plus: * Schema markup and structured data * JavaScript SEO * Core Web Vitals and site performance * Website migrations * Local SEO * Digital PR or link acquisition * Entity SEO or knowledge graph concepts * Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), or AI search visibility * Optimizing websites for ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, or other AI-driven discovery platforms * Professional services, thought leadership, executive, author, or founder-led brands How We Work * Prioritizing high-impact work over completing endless SEO checklists * Understanding *why* a recommendation matters before implementing it * Using AI to accelerate research and execution while applying human judgment * Building repeatable processes and systems * Communicating clearly when something requires strategic judgment, development support, or additional client scope We are looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, stays current as search evolves, and wants to help build the next generation of search and discoverability services. What Success Looks Like In this role, success means: * Client SEO priorities are implemented accurately and efficiently * Important technical issues are identified and resolved without getting distracted by low-value fixes * Client websites become stronger, cleaner, and easier for search engines and AI systems to understand * Work is clearly documented so the broader Retrevia team always knows what has been completed and what comes next * You increasingly develop expertise in AI search and become a key execution partner as Retrevia's methodology evolves To Apply Please send: * A short introduction and overview of your SEO experience * Examples of websites or SEO projects you have worked on * The SEO tools and CMS platforms you use regularly * Your hourly or project-based rate * Your current availability Bonus: Tell us how you think AI is changing SEO and which parts of traditional SEO you believe will matter most over the next several years.
