After four years as a Clinical Care Manager for a major EAP and Managed Care Company, I opened my own private therapy practice in 2003.
I continued in private practice until I retired, downsized, and moved from Raleigh, NC, to Shreveport, LA, in February of 2024.
During the Covid Years, due to not everyone feeling comfortable with phone therapy sessions, my client list shrunk by nearly 40%.
Knowing that I had always been a voracious reader, a friend put me in touch with a professional ghostwriter. (Name and contact info available upon request.) The ghostwriter had just signed on to work for a nationally known author; a high-volume author of science fiction and detective stories via Amazon.
This being his first major contract, he wanted a beta reader before each week's 20,000 word submission.
When he learned that I also had two years as a copy editor while working my way through graduate school, plus a Masters in psychology, he hired me on a contract basis.
The contract consisted of a 20,000 word reading/editing effort each week. The ghostwriter churned out five books to finish off one six-book sci-fi existing series. He followed that with six books in the P.I. Genre.
He finished one lead-off book in a fantasy series before finally burning out. He is on record as saying he would have probably burned out sooner without my unofficial therapeutic suggestions.
He ended on good terms with the author, and myself, and moved on.
Having now retired from my private counseling practice, I have found work as the beta reader-editor of a published author of four children's books.
I specialize in fiction and non-fiction of all genres, and technical writing in the field of psychology.
