I'm a professional book line and copy editor with active publishing credits at Bloomsbury Academic and Peter Lang, and an ongoing editorial relationship within the HarperCollins ecosystem.
Most of my work is with manuscripts that are already well developed but not yet settled on the page – memoirs finding their shape, nonfiction books tightening their argument, academic writing being made readable for a broader audience. I work at sentence level and structural level, preserving the author's voice while making the writing do what it's trying to do.
Alongside editorial work, I take on occasional writing projects – including educational fiction for young readers and reflective or essayistic nonfiction – where structural thinking and tonal precision are central to the brief.
My approach is careful rather than heavy-handed. I’m attentive to rhythm, register, and nuance, and I'm especially experienced with writing that carries personal, political, or cultural weight – memoir, narrative nonfiction, research-informed work – where a heavy editorial hand does more damage than good.

I currently offer developmental editing and beta reading services for fiction, with a focus on science fiction and fantasy.
I'm happy to provide short edited samples (10 pages maximum) for free; this is a good way to see if my editorial style is compatible with you. Don't hesitate to reach out with an excerpt of your work!
My developmental edit process includes:
- 2 passes (one "readerly" pass, followed by a slower, commenting pass)
- an editorial feedback document; lengthy, generally 15+ pages
- a commented manuscript
- optional: tracked changes within the manuscript; if declined, NO changes will be made to the manuscript text
- continued revision-based discussion via Upwork or email (no further passes without a new contract)
I strive to complete developmental edits within 4-5 weeks. I am happy to look at manuscript samples (no more than 10 pages) and provide comments on those samples at no charge. I charge $0.025 per word for developmental edits.
My beta reading process includes:
- requesting a list of 4-6 questions for my feedback focus
- 1 pass
- 1 feedback document organized around your questions; this can be either general feedback focused on the manuscript as a whole, or piecemeal feedback (chapter-by-chapter, etc.), according to your preference
- optional: continued revision-based discussion via Upwork or email (no further passes)
I strive to complete beta reading contracts within 7-10 days, though piecemeal feedback may be slower for longer manuscripts. For works under 80k words, I charge $100 for whole manuscript feedback and $150 for piecemeal feedback. For works over 80k words, I charge $0.00125 per word for general feedback and $0.0019 per word for piecemeal feedback.
Genres notwithstanding, I have a deep love for stories that make readers wrestle with fresh perspectives and uncertainties in personal, intimate ways. I have a powerful curiosity about fictional worlds, which makes me fiendishly keen to verify details and maintain consistency. This also means I’m always eager to hear authors gush about their world-building!
As an editor, I aim to help stories connect with readers in the way the author intends. My time working with self-translating writers has intensified my appreciation for this nuanced connection stories forge between people; I have learned that one of my greatest strengths is my willingness to ask authors exploratory, difficult questions about their work and to listen to the whole of their answers, however intricate or arcane. I strive to use this compassionate, detail-oriented approach to help authors however I can. If you're looking for an editor who will embrace your story for the reasons you're writing it in the first place, I am the right editor for you.
Let's make sure your words reach your readers exactly how you want them to.

I provide professional editing and writing services for manuscripts, business documents, and conversion-focused marketing content. My clients include authors, businesses, and agencies looking for accurate, thoughtful editing and writing that supports their objectives.
I'm a professional editor and writer with a degree in English and American Literature and extensive experience working with authors, businesses, and marketing teams. Before moving into freelance editing, I held senior HR leadership roles across four continents, working with organizations ranging from start-ups and SMEs to multinational companies and government entities. That experience enables me to edit business documents with an understanding of how they are used in practice, and I balance clear communication with an awareness of operational realities.
Editorial Services
I help authors strengthen both fiction and non-fiction manuscripts through developmental editing, manuscript evaluations, beta reading, and editing of AI-assisted manuscripts. My focus is on identifying what will improve the reader's experience, strengthen the overall work, and help the manuscript achieve its purpose.
Business Documents
I review and edit employee handbooks, policies, training materials, reports, and other business documents, improving organization, tone, consistency and readability, while preserving the purpose and intent of the original document. With my HR background I understand how these documents are used in practice and how employees are likely to interpret them.
Conversion Copy
I write high-converting advertorials, bridge pages, VSL scripts, and other long-form marketing content designed to build trust, maintain reader engagement, and support conversion goals. I have particular experience writing in the health and wellness, financial services, beauty, fitness, and personal development sectors.
Clients value my ability to work comfortably across very different types of content. I apply the same editorial discipline to every project: understanding the audience, recognizing the document's purpose, and producing writing that is clear, credible, and effective.
If you're looking for an experienced editor who combines literary training, senior business experience, and a practical approach to improving written communication, I'd be delighted to discuss your project.

Would your clinic, health platform, or writing project benefit from a medically trained
professional who blends clinical precision with empathetic communication, calm
support, and editorial finesse?
With 20+ years of experience as a surgical and clinic nurse at Kaiser Permanente, my insight
earned from thousands of real-life patient interactions will support your projects.
From procedure rooms to post-op care, your content, admin systems, or written work will be grounded in both medical accuracy and clarity — no need to explain the difference between an IV and an EKG or how to talk to a patient who’s scared.
Your projects may also benefit from my broader passions: solo travel across Europe, the study of French and other languages, a lifelong love of reading and storytelling, a sharp eye for tone and detail, plus a music degree in the string bass.
That background helps me communicate in a way that’s both technically sound and deeply human — supporting professionals, patients, and writers alike.

~Medical Writing & Patient Education~
Healthcare communication demands more than textbook knowledge — it requires compassion, discernment and the ability to meet readers where they are.
By helping patients navigate surgery, recovery, and outpatient care for decades, your educational materials will reflect the real needs and real questions people face when dealing with procedures, diagnoses, or important wellness decisions.
Whether it’s a one-sheet for clinic patients or long-form health content for a broader audience, your readers receive calm, easy-to-understand information that empowers rather than overwhelms.
Combining my nursing background with strong skills in health copywriting and patient education means you’ll get content that serves both your audience and your team.
Having guided thousands of patients through pre-op jitters and post-op instructions, your projects will benefit from medical writing that turns fear into understanding — and instructions into action.
Let’s work together to create patient-facing content that supports understanding, confidence, and better outcomes.
Please see my portfolio for more examples of my work.
~Medical Virtual Assistant & Healthcare Admin Support~
Behind every great provider, wellness program, or telehealth platform is someone who keeps the details on track and the tone aligned.
Navigating 20+ years in my career managing clinical workflows, reviewing medical transcription, and supporting patients in high-pressure settings, your practice will benefit from a medical virtual assistant who already understands the pace and privacy needs of care delivery.
From refining clinical document review materials to transforming post-visit notes into checklists or plain-language summaries, you can count on my initiative and adaptability to your tasks.
With firsthand knowledge of HIPAA compliance and administrative processes, expect projects with less overwhelm for you and your clients alike.
Day in-day out through decades in clinical environments, your administrative workflows will gain a trusted assistant with real-world judgment, calm communication, and deep familiarity with healthcare admin support systems.
If your project needs a VA who is detail-oriented, kind under pressure, and fluent in health operations, let’s talk.
~Beta Reading & Proofreading for Impact~
As a lifelong book lover, narrative listener, and self-proclaimed grammar sleuth, you’ll receive feedback that’s precise, encouraging, and deeply attuned to voice and rhythm.
