Whether you're writing slow-burn romance that makes readers hold their breath or a cozy fantasy world readers never want to leave, you've poured something real into those pages — and you deserve an editor who treats them with the same care you did.
I'm a developmental editor, copyeditor, and proofreader specializing in fiction, with a particular love for romance and cozy fantasy. I work with indie authors and first-time novelists who are ready to take their manuscript from "almost there" to genuinely publish-ready — without losing the voice and heart that made it worth writing in the first place.
Here's what working with me looks like:
Developmental editing — story structure, pacing, character arcs, plot holes, point of view, and the overall reading experience
Copyediting — clarity, consistency, grammar, dialogue, and prose flow
Proofreading — a clean final pass to catch anything that slipped through
I also work with non-fiction on a selective basis, so feel free to reach out if your project falls outside fiction.

I provide professional editing and writing services for manuscripts, business documents, and conversion-focused marketing content. My clients include authors, businesses, and agencies looking for accurate, thoughtful editing and writing that supports their objectives.
I'm a professional editor and writer with a degree in English and American Literature and extensive experience working with authors, businesses, and marketing teams. Before moving into freelance editing, I held senior HR leadership roles across four continents, working with organizations ranging from start-ups and SMEs to multinational companies and government entities. That experience enables me to edit business documents with an understanding of how they are used in practice, and I balance clear communication with an awareness of operational realities.
Editorial Services
I help authors strengthen both fiction and non-fiction manuscripts through developmental editing, manuscript evaluations, beta reading, and editing of AI-assisted manuscripts. My focus is on identifying what will improve the reader's experience, strengthen the overall work, and help the manuscript achieve its purpose.
Business Documents
I review and edit employee handbooks, policies, training materials, reports, and other business documents, improving organization, tone, consistency and readability, while preserving the purpose and intent of the original document. With my HR background I understand how these documents are used in practice and how employees are likely to interpret them.
Conversion Copy
I write high-converting advertorials, bridge pages, VSL scripts, and other long-form marketing content designed to build trust, maintain reader engagement, and support conversion goals. I have particular experience writing in the health and wellness, financial services, beauty, fitness, and personal development sectors.
Clients value my ability to work comfortably across very different types of content. I apply the same editorial discipline to every project: understanding the audience, recognizing the document's purpose, and producing writing that is clear, credible, and effective.
If you're looking for an experienced editor who combines literary training, senior business experience, and a practical approach to improving written communication, I'd be delighted to discuss your project.

Book Editor & Ghostwriter | Developmental | Line | Copy | Christian Fiction | Nonfiction
Most manuscripts don't fail because of weak writing. They fail because the structure underneath the writing was never built to hold a reader's attention.
I'm Samuel, a developmental editor and ghostwriter with a 100% Job Success Score and Top Rated status on Upwork. I work primarily with nonfiction authors and Christian writers, though I've edited and ghostwritten across fiction, memoir, self-help, business, and romance. The through line in every project is the same: your ideas deserve an execution that matches them.
My background in law sharpened something most editors don't carry into manuscript work: the habit of reading for argument, not just prose. I notice that when a chapter promises something, it doesn't deliver. I catch the moment a reader's attention would drift before they do. That's not something line editing fixes after the fact. It's structural, and it has to be addressed first.
What I do:
Ghostwriting
I work with authors, thought leaders, and subject matter experts who have the material and need someone to build the manuscript. I write in your voice, from interviews, outlines, or existing drafts. Christian nonfiction, memoir, self-help, business, and fiction across genres.
Developmental Editing
The big-picture pass: structure, argument flow, chapter sequencing, pacing, reader engagement, and whether your book delivers on what it promises. Every developmental edit includes a full editorial letter (5 to 10 pages) addressing what's working, what isn't, and how to fix it.
Line Editing
Sentence and paragraph-level refinement. Clarity, rhythm, transitions, voice consistency. Your voice stays. The friction doesn't.
Copy Editing
Grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style guide compliance. I maintain a custom style sheet for every project covering terminology, formatting preferences, and consistency guidelines. Chicago Manual of Style standard.
Proofreading
The final pass before your manuscript goes to a publisher, agent, or self-publishing platform.
Beta Reading
I read as your target audience would: chapter by chapter, tracking engagement, pacing, confusion points, and marketability. You'll know exactly what lands and what needs work before investing in full editing.
KDP & Formatting (add-on)
I format for Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, IngramSpark, and other self-publishing platforms, print-ready and ebook. Available as a standalone or bundled with editing.
Genres I work in:
Christian and inspirational fiction and nonfiction. Memoir and personal narrative. Business and entrepreneurship. Self-help and personal development. Health and wellness. Romance. Children's literature.
Faith-based manuscripts are a particular strength. Theological accuracy matters in Christian publishing, and I edit with that in mind alongside narrative craft.
What every project includes:
Track Changes with margin comments explaining the reasoning behind every suggestion. A custom style sheet built for your manuscript. A full editorial letter for developmental and line editing projects. Follow-up availability as you work through revisions. Sample edit on your first 1,000 to 1,500 words before you commit to anything.
Send me a message with your word count, where you are in the process, and your biggest challenge with the manuscript. I'll reply within 24 hours.

***Owner of Ink Worthy Books, a full-service editorial and publication company providing cover-to-cover services and support to self-publishing authors of soulful nonfiction.***
This is my passion, my heart’s work, and what makes me a happy camper. It is not merely my “job.” With more than thirteen years of writing, editing, and publishing experience, I have built my business around helping self-motivated writers take their ideas all the way to publication and beyond. At Ink Worthy Books, we believe that every book has the power to change the world.
As a trained nonfiction book coach and developmental editor, I lead a group of skilled professionals who specialize in book editing, design, and marketing. This means that we can support an author’s entire project without risking quality due to the overworked eyeballs of one professional. This approach to self-publishing support saves you hours of searching for skilled pros in the world of one-and-done freelance giggers and alleviates the stress of managing all the details which go into publishing a book.
In addition to an array of community and coaching support options, IWB’s hands-on services fall into five categories:
Evaluate - Not certain what your story needs? We offer (free!) creative consult calls along with manuscript reviews to help you determine the best next step. This process saves writers both time and money because they leave with a clear idea of how to move their project forward and without having to guess.
Edit - We offer three types of editing, depending on the project’s need: developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing. Because these terms are sometimes used inconsistently in the industry, we will discuss your book’s needs in detail to ensure you are confident in what type of editing support you will be receiving.
Design - Our design team creates the high quality cover and interior files for all written formats (ebook, soft cover, and hardcover), all to the specification of the particular platform the writer is publishing on. This process also includes a final proofread, which ensures your book shines prior to publishing.
Publication Prep - The Ink Worthy Books team helps self-publishing authors manage ALL the loose ends that need attention to prepare to publish their book: writing your author bio, crafting the back cover description and Amazon description, pricing and ISBN support, author website creation, optimization of the book’s Amazon profile, and much more! Rest assured, we can help with every step of the way!
Marketing - We support writers in creating a marketing and promotion plan and materials to promote their book both leading up to and following publication.
If you are looking for a line or copy edit of your manuscript draft, please see my specialized profiles for more details on how I can help!
I look forward to connecting with you soon!

=== SERVICE DESCRIPTION ===
1. I'll first take a look at your document to determine which level of editing it requires:
🔸 Proofreading (polishing)
Before your writing is published, it needs a final review—beyond a simple spellcheck. I’ll correct typographical errors (typos/misprints) as well as formatting errors in spacing, headings, page numbers, captions, table of contents, footnotes, etc. I'll double-check design elements, and if specified, I’ll also ensure that the text conforms to a style guide.
🔸 Light editing (adjusting)
Also known as copy-editing, this is usually what most people require. I’ll correct spelling, grammar, punctuation and problems with syntax / sentence structure. I’ll also check for consistency in style and tone, making sure that the text is concise and flows smoothly.
🔸 Heavy editing (overhauling)
Others refer to this as line editing or content editing. Whatever you want to call it, this includes any or all of the following: heavy editing, rewording and sometimes structural editing. I also check for ambiguities, repetitiveness, inappropriate diction, etc. Although I don't offer complete rewrites, I can rephrase where necessary—while maintaining your voice and keeping your target reader in mind.
2. Select a style guide to be applied to your text:
• Associated Press Stylebook (AP 2017)
• Chicago Manual of Style (CMoS 17th ed.)
• In-house style guide (if you have one)
• New Oxford Style Manual (2016)
• Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 7th ed.)
3. Choose American English or British English. I've worked with both throughout my life, so either can be used for your specific audience.
4. Pick a platform on which you'd like me to work:
• MS Word (using Track Changes if requested), Excel or PowerPoint
• A basic text editor like Notepad
• Google Docs (using Suggestions mode if requested)
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (using the Comment tools)
• Directly in your CMS (Google Sites, Squarespace, Weebly, Wix, WordPress)
• Print, correct and scan (for an extra fee)
