Hello, my name is Melissa, and I am the founder of Melissa Woods' Editing LLC, a boutique editing company (it's just me—a one-woman operation!), specializing in developmental and sentence-level editing. I would be honored to hear more about your book! My book, Call Me Elizabeth Lark, was released in 2020 by Crooked Lane Books/ Penguin Random House. I have a bachelor's degree in creative writing and have written six novels. I'm a seasoned editor of fiction and nonfiction with experience in AMA-11, APA-7, Chicago Manual of Style, and AP style guides. I have taken many manuscripts to the next level; several of my clients have received publishing deals and agents. I am also a published and agented author and have won many awards for my writing. I started editing in 2021 after mentoring two authors for Pitchwars, a popular Twitter contest. Their book comes out in the summer of 2025. After helping them, I was hooked! My unique skill set can elevate your book to the highest standards. I aim to retain your voice while enhancing the content of your story through copy or developmental editing. If you want a skilled, enthusiastic editor, look no further!
I was awarded The Stephen R. Kustra Fellowship and The Glenn Balch Award for Fiction. I was also nominated for The Pushcart Prize in November of 2024.

I’m a professional book and magazine designer with over 30 years of experience in publishing, layout design, and print production, specializing in book formatting, magazine design, and typesetting for both print and digital platforms.
For much of my career, I worked in legal and financial publishing, including as Head of Design and Production for Euromoney’s Legal Media Group, where I managed over 100 titles per year. I also served as Production Editor for the International Financial Law Review (IFLR), collaborating with some of the world’s top law firms to deliver precise, polished publications under tight deadlines.
Since becoming a freelancer, I’ve applied that same high standard of design and accuracy to projects across travel, lifestyle, cookery, poetry, fiction, and children’s publishing. I currently design a bilingual Canadian wine club magazine and a digital magazine for in-house counsel in Hong Kong.

As a quick reader, I focus on attention to detail, story consistency and grammar. I am proficient with Microsoft Word, Pages (Mac), Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. I wrote and illustrated three children’s books using Photoshop. All eight of my books I laid out and formatted entirely in InDesign for self-publishing paperbacks and e-readers through Amazon KDP. I designed the covers of all my books using Photoshop. I created promotional products such as posters, banners and bookmarks.
I live in an RV and spend most of my time traveling throughout the western United States. I have many stories of the road including catastrophes, repairs, off the beaten path places and cool things to see.
I co-owned a graphic art business where I created, designed and edited posters, t-shirts, signs, bookmarks, etc utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
As a social worker, I routinely wrote reports and legal documents which were submitted to the court and professionals.

Specialties:
Reflowable ebook design for ePub and mobi (Kindle)
Proofreading
I produce ebook code by hand, rather than using a conversion software. This ensures cross-platform compatibility, accurate links, reflowable text, aesthetic design, and overall excellent UX while maintaining clean, readable, minimalist code. I provide an ePub that will fully validate for Kindle, iTunes, Nook, or any other distributor. I can also troubleshoot ebooks that have already been created using a conversion software, if that's what you need.
I have experience creating ebooks of all levels of complexity, including novels, reference books with hundreds of footnotes, cookbooks, some picture books, etc. If a print design has been created already, I can match the look and feel of it skillfully in ebook form. I am able to craft basic designs "from scratch," as well, but graphic design itself is not my specialty, so for more in-depth graphic layouts I would defer to someone else for the initial design.
I am also an editor with an eye for detail, which gives you the added benefit of an extra eye skimming over your content. While I don't spend extra time proofreading unless it's agreed upon as part of the contract, I do make a habit of noting any typos or inconsistencies I may encounter along the way and passing them along to you, the client.
I can also do some formatting for print, as needed, using InDesign software.
Note: Not interested in content creation or ghostwriting.

Either you think you can impact the world with your ideas or not, you are right. There has always been a thin line between remaining mediocre and actually getting your voice heard. And what better way to get people to hear you than to let them into your headspace with professionally drafted pieces.
You can solidify the efficacy or potency of your words by getting your ideas transformed into mind-blowing and compelling content. How? It’s simple – hire one of the most competent GHOSTWRITERS you will find anywhere in the world.
Professionals all over the world always strive to ensure one thing – satisfy their audience/clients and put a smile on their faces. Musicians do this with their voice, while comedians do this with their puns. With an undeniably impressive educational and professional background, I achieve this with a grand use and twist of words while turning your ideas into masterpieces for professional publications and publishing!
I edit, ghostwrite, design, and produce content just as easily as a footballer will tie his shoelace.
No fuzz, I have worked with over 2000 satisfied clients all over the world, especially from other platforms; I recently just decided to Upwork to the list of my workspaces.
Let my remarkable portfolio speak the obvious to you!!!
